I need to know some information about someone. It is pretty serious. I was going to use US Search but I thought I'd run it by you Freepers first. Is it a good idea? Have any of you ever used it before?
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: help; search
Thanks in advance and sorry about the vanity but I know there's so much knowledge out there.

Have you taken a look at the free side? They give you info, but not enough to contact them. Maybe getting general locations can be enough for you to then go hit the on-line phone directories. Maybe not. I never paid for the service but it seemed to have a mix of current and historical data.

Yea, breaking news, the first time anyone has ever posted a vanity.

I actually have the address and phone number, what I need is more background information. I'm not wanting to harm anyone.

Most of the data that was free was current and/or previous residences. There are services that can do stuff like criminal backgrounds, etc. But I never used those. Good luck.

Depending on what state you are from, you can do a criminal background check yourself. Most states, if not all, have open records policies. You can start by going to the county courthouse(s) of where the person lives and ask for a criminal records check. It will probablly only list convictions, not arrests. It's a start and it's free. Good Luck.

You can do the same type of searches for marriages and divorces. Some states may let you do birth record checks. (To see if this person has any children) These are also done at the courthouse, usually by the health department.
I've done plenty of these here in Indiana.

Hire a professional private investigator. If anything were to be brought back against you, and you followed proper channels you would be OK. If you were to start snooping, etc. you could be setting yourself up for a stalking/harassment etc. lawsuit. Google is also a good research tool. There is a lot of info there with different input parameters.

I'm really not out to harm anyone or stalk anyone. I just need a little bit of info to maybe protect someone. I don't live in the same state as this person but I know them very well (unfortunately). If I need to I will hire a detective but right now I think some basic information will help me.
I did the search although I don't have any results yet. I may have wasted my money but in the scheme of things it was a small price to pay.
