Actually, Herb Adderly, Mike Ditka, and Lance Alworth are all in the Hall of Fame. Adderly won one Super Bowl with the Cowboys, and Ditka and Alworth won their only Super Bowl player rings as members of the Cowboys.
There will be more Cowboys in the hall. Aikman and Smith will go in on first ballot. If Irvin doesn't, it will be because of off-field problems. Charles Hailey should also go in, along with several members of the early ninties offensive line.
Maybe you make a case for Jordan. Howley's borderline.
Harris and Waters WERE mediocre. Too slow, and not hard tacklers.
Don't ask me why Too Tall, Harvey Martin, Jethro Pugh, Randy White(?) aren't in. But Lilly's in. Is Renfro?
My theory is that the Tom Landry and his coaches were ahead of their time and deserve MUCH of the credit for the Cowboy's success.
Much like the Vikings front four of Eller, Page, Larsen, and Marshall, and able LB corp made heroes out of the Vikes mediocre secondary, so it was with Dallas'.
Two best secondary's ever, imo:
Chief's late 60s, and the Steelers late 70s. Honorable mention to the Raiders @late 60/early 70s.
Best D ever: 1985 Bears.
