My father tells me that he thinks that 1975 Vikings team was Grant's best.

And drop a ton of salt in the next post (10)! Are you picking up bad habits over there? Nah....I had all those bad habits long before I came over here.
I'm just honing them here.

I'll take a shot:
"Yeah, of course people have had bias against the Cowboys ever since the America's Team [expletive]," says Sports Illustrated senior writer Paul Zimmerman, a longtime Hall voter.
When you named YOURSELF "America's Team", you pissed off a bunch of people. Seems like some of them still remember.

It does seem like most folks think NFL history began with Super Bowl I. I always trip up people when I ask them how many NFL titles have the Vikings won? They always answer "none" because the Vikes are 0-4 in the SB. The answer is one because they won the last NFL title in 1969 before the merger before losing Super Bowl IV to the Chiefs.

I think it was that night that Jones decided he needed to go get Parcells after the season.

"How else can Bob Hayes, Lee Roy Jordan, Chuck Howley, Cliff Harris, Charlie Waters or Rayfield Wright (to mention just a few) not be in the Hall?"Cliff Harris and Charley Waters were mediocre safeties who benefited from a great the Dallas front seven.
Rayfield Wright is the only one on your list who could be considered "great."
Jordan, Howley, and Hayes were merely "good."

Didn't NFL films offer it to the Steelers but they turned it down? The way I heard it, Dallas' owner Tex Schram annointed the Cowboys "America's Team" before one of the Super Bowls. NFL Films brass went to Art Rooney Sr. and asked him what he thought about Dallas' new nickname, Rooney replied 'We don't want to be America's team, we're Pittsburgh's team.'
That said, It's inexplicable why there aren't more Cowboys in the HoF. Like it or not, Bob Hayes has been black balled because of his drug problems in the 70s. Perhaps Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters weren't as good as Cowboy fans remember. Hayes, Rayfield Wright, Drew Pearson, Lee Roy Jordan are absolute HoFers, and deserve to be there as does Troy Aikman. Michael Irvin...?

Your father is very perceptive. And correct, in my opinion.

They got burned by Stallworth in SB XIII.
To: Colonel_Flagg
Do you think they would have fared any better against the Steelers in that SB than they did the previous year?

Gadzook, Allegra! You working late or something!!!!! No, I'm done with work. I'm just playing now.
There's not a whole lot to do here in our off hours. Played Spades with people last night. Hung out at the bar with friends the night before.
Well, I could go out in the streets and hang out at some cafe and talk politics and literature or something, but the security people keep telling me we're in a bad neighborhood. ;-)

Okay, make that "Super Bowls."
Now, tell me how many Super Bowls have the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions or Pittsburgh Steelers gone to... Dallas have been in 8.
How many Super Bowls have the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions or Pittsburgh Steelers won? Dallas has won 5 and the Steelers have a good chance to equal that.
Matter of fact, I hope they do, so I can say, "What took you guys so long?"

I just watched the 'Boys win in Super Bowl XII over Denver on NFL network. I'm surprised Morton didn't get killed that night.

The problem is that there are too many 1970's Steelers in the HOF. Like the 1970s Cincinati Reds, the electors have decided that merely playing for the 1970s Steelers should make the player worthy of being in the HOF.
The HOF is supposed to be for the super elite players (Montana, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor) and not just for pretty good players that were role players on a dynasty.
For example, compare how many 1980s 49ers or 1990s Cowboys in the HOF compared to the number of 1970s Steelers. It isn't even close.
I don't think that it is just a coincidence that both teams that have too many players in the HOF played in the same same era. The 1970s were when the traditional sports media was at it's height - it wasn't until the 80s that cable tv and other sources of entertainment became prominant.
To the orginal topic, I grew up a Dallas fan and I believe that they have almost exactly the number of players in the HOF that they should. The problem is that the selection process has been diluted and many players from other teams are in there that shouldn't be.

I think it was that night that Jones decided he needed to go get Parcells after the season. I wish Houston could get him.
Oh, well...I'm pretty stoked about Kubiak.
And Reggie Bush.
And an offensive line (pleeeease?)

People forget Morton was the Cowboys QB for that one, I knew that, but forgot. I HATED Denver back then and actually liked the Cowboys a little.
Times have changed since Jerry Jones bought the team.

You mean he was the Broncos QB right?
To: mainepatsfan
Hard to say if they would have won, but I think they'd have done better. That was a tremendous Steelers team. But I do know that the 1975 team had one of Grant's best-ever defenses and Chuck Foreman had his best year, setting a then-NFL record of 22 touchdowns along with 73 receptions and a 1,000-yard season.
Would have been a lot of fun to watch, though.
