The problem is that there are too many 1970's Steelers in the HOF. Like the 1970s Cincinati Reds, the electors have decided that merely playing for the 1970s Steelers should make the player worthy of being in the HOF.
The HOF is supposed to be for the super elite players (Montana, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor) and not just for pretty good players that were role players on a dynasty.
For example, compare how many 1980s 49ers or 1990s Cowboys in the HOF compared to the number of 1970s Steelers. It isn't even close.
I don't think that it is just a coincidence that both teams that have too many players in the HOF played in the same same era. The 1970s were when the traditional sports media was at it's height - it wasn't until the 80s that cable tv and other sources of entertainment became prominant.
To the orginal topic, I grew up a Dallas fan and I believe that they have almost exactly the number of players in the HOF that they should. The problem is that the selection process has been diluted and many players from other teams are in there that shouldn't be.

Which Steelers from that era do you think deserved to get in?

You drive home an excellent point, Jeff.
