OK, new thread for the next week.
First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.
Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 550 processors and 232 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over a 40 computers now from GetLoaded.com, a trucking support website, all contributing while their owners ply our freeways keeping the nation moving.
New members of the week include:
Mike_Medved (Thank you very much for your support)
Zach_Erskine
Route66
OldsDon'tFloat (who is this!? - can't link to a FR screen name. Must be from MA)
glockrocks
Mrs_1066AD (thanks for the family involvement)
Thom_Pain
Dplowdude
Egon
holly_go_rightly
c505ber
Derllak (award for the fastest new folder, streaking up the boards)(Fastest Folding Streaker Award?)
Even more impressive, our team now boasts 145 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of folders for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!
Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page
On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 326. We will be in the Top 300 on Wednesday!
As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:
Top 300 by February
Top 250 by the end of the February
We have 1,000,000 points so far and have folded over 8,030 WU. We will soon reach an exalted mark of folding a million points per month, each and every month! Fantastic!
Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.
Extreme Overclockers Stats for Free Republic
I'm not all that good with computers. Would you mind explaining how I would do that? Just by not loading another WU, or some other way?
Checkpoints are written to the hard drive every 20-30 minutes or so.
Um, what?
2) While folding, the program saves it's work to your hard drive periodically, so that if you shut down or lose power it doesn't have to start over from the beginning. The "saved work" file on my PC is taking up 407Kb. (Much less then any of my Ann Coulter pics.)
Perfect.
Thank you.
:-D
This describes some of the screens you see when running the GUI version of the Folding@Home program (if you decide to run the console version someone else will have to provide examples; I don't run that version.)
When you right click on the System Tray icon for F@H and select "Configure...", the first screen will look something like this:
Of course, you'll have your own name there. Click on the "Advanced" tab, and you should see something like this:
You can change the CPU Usage Percent if you don't want F@H to use all of the available CPU time; however, it runs at a low priority so even if it uses all it can get you probably won't notice its effect. You can also adjust the slider for the Checkpointing frequency to determine how often F@H will write checkpoints to the hard drive. For example, with checkpoints written every 30 minutes, if your computer crashes you should never lose more than 30 minutes of work.
And no I don't recommend the beta version. It's for power users.
Yay!
Spread the word too. It's kinda fun.
The Folding@home display is saying I'm waiting for core step 13, and I am part of the right team.
Is it loading?
Give it a little time. Do you have a red flower like icon in the lower right hand corner of your computer? If so right click on it, and go to configure. Is your chosen screen name in? With 31620 as the team #. That's about it.
It also says ......could not connect to secondary assignment server
And a letter...f ?
Noting your typo, 31620 is wrong.
Team 36120 is correct.
Have you tried FahMon?
I fold on two cpus over the home network, and I can keep track on them both from anywhere with that neat little program.
Hmmm....
Typo in the post, but I did it right in the registration.
Thanks for thinking about it though.
:-)
Step 27
I just wanted to be sure new folders join the right team. Be well.
When I signed up SETI didn't give me credit for a 90 something signup date and all the packets that I processed.
To heck with them then.
