Hotline: NBC cancels ‘West Wing’
Boston herald ^ | 1/23/06 | staff

The new president on “The West Wing” will be a real short-timer: NBC announced yesterday it was pulling the plug on the Emmy-winning political drama in May after seven seasons.

Although this season’s story line with a presidential campaign involving a Democrat played by Jimmy Smits and Republican portrayed by Alan Alda has been strong critically, ratings have sunk with its move to Sunday nights.

The decision to cancel it was made before actor John Spencer, who played former presidential chief of staff Leo McGarry, died of a heart attack Dec. 16, said Kevin Reilly, NBC entertainment president.

" ... ratings have sunk with its move to Sunday nights."

They just don't friggin get it.

IT is NOT about what day it's on, it's the CONTENT, stupid.

People don't like the product.

Even Michael Crichton made fun of Martin Sheen with a thinly-disguised character in his recent eco-thriller, State of Fear.

I wonder how many Americans are now wondering "how can they cancel the President's show?"

Too bad, I really enjoyed it. Excellent writing, once you got past all the strawmen and cheap shots directed at conservatives. Spencer was one of my favs - and the only "realist" character on the show.

Course, they promised to give a conservative administration equal time, lol, we knew that wasn't going to happen.

Did you see the pic of Sheen strolling alone along some Moonbat anti-war parade like he was Jimmy Carter? LOL. What an idiot.

I enjoyed the first couple of years of "The West Wing".

All in all, I thought it was good TV drama. I'm also a Pol Sci major - which helped.

But I did pick up on a tone of liberal preachiness to it. I tried to ignore it and thought "Hey c'mon, that's Hollywood for you. Nothing new here."

But I couldn't tolerate it anymore. The characters (not all of 'em) grew more preachy and I thought the script writers went out of their way to cast Republicans as evil or dorks.

So I quit watching it. Maybe I'll watch it again when the later years of the show become re-runs - but for now, the death of this show is probably the best thing.

Well, this is the Boston Herald's take, so does that justify another thread?

"Micheal Moore has nothing to say?"

I'm sure Rolley Polley has plenty to say, such as:

"I support unions, now I'm off to Canada to make my next commie propoganda piece with non-union labor"

"Relaxed fit, my @ss"

"Waitress! More pie!"

I've never watched it anyway. Is this the show where they've made the President a Hillary-like clone? Or is that some other predictable TV show?

Let's see , the West Wing , that would be the left wing of a north bound goose ???

Did anyone really watch that druel ? I think the network created it to amuse Al Gore and John Kerry after losing the election to W . . .
