LONDON - The lost and distressed whale stranded in the River Thames died Saturday as rescue workers attempted to ferry it out to sea for release, an animal rights group said.
The 20-foot-long Northern bottlenose whale had been lifted onto a barge by rescuers and was being taken downriver toward the North Sea when it suffered convulsions and died, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.
Well, at least it gets a burial at sea.
LOL!!
Yawn. People get more worked up over this whale tale than Islamofascists beheading HUMANS.
I'm always fascinated as to why a story like this gets so much attention. I really hoped it would survive but doubted it.
Lot of blubber.....
"lifted onto a barge by rescuers and was being taken downriver "
STUPID!! The dang thing can swim on its own. Leave it alone!! Idiots have done more to damage fish habitat by messing with it than not. Bunch of little gods running around...
Does PETA know?
It's that people are for the most part compassionate about animals, especially if in distress. People will tune in to see.
The AP employs whales?
The worst case scenario can be viewed here (quicktime movie).

That was my response, as well. The poor thing probably died because they had it out of water. Their skeletons are built for water buoyancy; out of water they suffocate because the body collapses and they can't breathe.
we should be so lucky.
I hope someone sues the pants off the the enviro-weenies that killed that thing, why didn't they just leave it alone!
I think we were all hoping it would survive.
"The dang thing can swim on its own. Leave it alone!!"
It was going to die if they didnt turn it around because it would have ended up stuck in a too shallow water.
Apparently something like the river Thames is too noisy and the whale couldnt navigate properly.
Yup. Humphrey did it, with a little help.
FNC actually went with an ALERT!
