Good morning, fellow FReeper baseball FANatics...It's been a while since we've all caught up..( and there were a few things going on...college bowl games, the NFL payoffs, and a SCOTUS nominee hearting..Getting close to "pitchers and catchers" reporting...( February 16th) So I thought I'd run a thread to get your take on how your particular team's done in the off season, and also to find out what you think of the upcoming World BaseBall Classic..
McCarthy is ready to start every 5th day and Vasquez is a good pitcher who got hurt in NY then thrown to the lions against the Sox in the ALCS. Depth wise they are fine.
Thome is an upgrade at the plate. Hurt last year but pretty durable otherwise. He strikes out a lot but he walks a ton too.
Plus, with their pitching staff they could likely trade for a bat at the deadline if needed.
Works for me..let's talk about it..
Now that the Cubans are in, I wonder how many will defect?
FYI..if you're a Cards fan..you and "Scales" should connect..we had a lot of funs on these threads last year....
Although Ripken was defensively as good as the O's ever saw at the hot corner, he had neither the range nor the arm to compare to Rolen's.
Sell low, buy high!
Milwaukee reamed the Jays on those deals.
My team, the Expos, no longer exists. Thank you for asking.
They got out Quebec before the whole province leaves the country...
Quick thinkers. That's because they were American, not Canadian. :^)
heard about him yes, but he is better than Rolen is at this time.
Rolen has gotten injured and that injury lingered.
Schmidt's knees killed him on that turf (and the turf killed his knees). It really limited him the last 4 or 5 years on the league.
I didn't forget crap.
Overbay is better than you might think....
Now you're showing your ignorance & you have seen Charlie Weis's worst ND team.
between Ripken and Rolen? Surely you jest......
and as for fatass Charlie Weis, whenever he realizes that Ohio State was the better team that day (and admits it on TV), then I might give him a little respect, but until that happens, he gets NONE.
I wonder how many of their players will defect?
temper, temper. We not talking about longevity. And I will admit the buckeyes were the better team, but ND is going to do nothing but get better.
Check career fielding stats for 3rd base and see who is better.
So, every 3rd baseman is there because he's not good enough to play shortstop? Clearly, you're the funny guy here. As someone said previously, "Put down the pipe."
You don't get moved to shortstop because you have a weak arm.
Don't be ridiculous. No one suggested Ripken had a weak arm. In fact, his arm strength, although not as good as Rolen's, made up for his lack of quickness, which is why he was a better fit for shortstop. You simply do not put someone with Rolen's arm, range, and quickness at shortstop. You need him at 3rd.
Rolen isn't better than Brooks Robinson or Graig Nettles at this point in his career either.
Whatever you say. It's a shame they weren't good enough to play shortstop. :)
Who the hell is Graig Nettles?
Yanks open at home on 4/11, Mets on 4/3.
