MANCHESTER, Pa. -- A cat interrupted a catnap, possibly saving two lives. Jean Poole and her 9-month-old granddaughter were dozing Tuesday in Poole's home in the Newberry Estates mobile home park. Poole's 7-year-old cat, Princess, woke them up, meowing loudly. Poole got up, smelled smoke and heard crackling flames. She went to check the wood burning stove in the living room, and saw flames at the picture window. With fire blocking the front door, Poole grabbed the baby and went out the rear door. Then she returned to get Princess. "She woke me up. I don't know if I'd have smelled the smoke otherwise," Poole said. Arriving firefighters found flames were shooting through the roof. Scott Glassmyer, assistant chief of the Newberry Township Fire Company, said the blaze apparently started accidentally in a trash can outside, ignited the underside of the mobile home, spread inside the siding and broke through to the interior.

If I ever need to find my cat, all I have to do is pick up her food bowl and shake it a bit and she comes running from wherever she's hiding or napping.

No, I think it was more like I lived in his house(grudgingly), did all domestic duties (never fast enough) in return for cat hair on my uniforms and "velcro kitty greetings" when I came home!!
..this is no joking matter when the cat in question ran about 15 pounds (very little fat) and had a head the size of a softball.

Ha. This is the second story like this I have read this week. Kitties aren't stupid, and they don't wanna die.
I think I'll get two more.

I already have three houses at this point. No more, thanks.
But I can always benefit from some additional kitty lovin'! They are such calm, peaceful little creatures. I love my dog, but she is so loud and active and stinky. Dogs are like parenting permanent toddlers. I never have to give my kitties a bath, they don't bark, and most of the time they just look cute while they sleep. Perfect pet.

Cats are too independent. They don't need you. Plus they make me sneeze. I enjoy cats but they can't hold a candle to a dog.

They don't need youThat's a load. Most cats are obviously products of how they are raised. My kitties follow me around like little ducks, and demand attention. And they come when you call them. Except the old deaf boy, of course.
And to be honest, I get tired of being "needed" all the time.

It's not so much a "need" thing. It's more that you're wanting some acknowledgment that they like you, that you're not just another kneading contraption.
