The critically acclaimed but low-rated Arrested Development still hangs by a thin thread to next season's Fox schedule, the network's entertainment president Peter Liguori, told TV writers at their annual winter tour in Pasadena Tuesday. "I have to be frank with you," he remarked to the writers. "It is highly unlikely it is coming back." He said that the network will make a final decision after it assesses comedy shows currently in development and whether Arrested's ratings improve during the coming weeks. One writer, Bill Goodykoontz of the Arizona Republic, noted that the network is putting the last two episodes up against the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 10. "So you can guess how it'll do," Meanwhile, Liguori indicated that it will definitely be the end of the line for the long-running sitcoms That '70s Show after eight seasons and Malcolm in the Middle after seven.

This clearly shows how Fox has treated this show. They have kept it when the ratings might not have justifed it, but then they put it in terrible time slots and tell it to win or die. Or as they have done lately, it is off for a month, then an episode runs and then it isn't on for another month. How can it build an audience when it is never on?

I was hoping from the headline they were speaking about Saddam.

Saddam? We are talking about important things here, like one of the few reasons my TV is still worth turning on.

Sorry. I've never watched the show. I just wanted to link that so I could find it later.

Same as they did with Action! (or was that on FX?). BTW: Action! will be out on DVD in mid-Feb. I can hardly wait!!!

I am not surprised that MITM is going out. When it moved to Fridays, I knew that it will be out. I used to watch the show, but I stopped watching it after 2003.

Yeah, and That 70's Show should have been done last season. It was really pointless to go on without Ashton Kutcher or Topher Grace.

Agreed. I think it is a fresh, clever show and Jason Bateman is brilliant in it. It's a shame they don't give things a chance.
Fox is notorious for this. Just like Undeclared. That show was great, killed it about 6 or 7 shows in. Never gave it a chance to build an audience.
No one watched Everybody Loves Raymond or Seinfeld the first few years. Look how well those shows ended up doing.

Given a good time slot and regular showings would help.
Some of the blame does fall on the writers. They do need to quit relying on in-jokes so much. They have great humor, but you have to watch every episode to get everything. Although saying "her" is the context of the show is hilarious, new viewers won't get it.

I love the show. Undoubtedly the best sitcom since I don't know when. I feel kinda of guilty for not watching it more (not that I'm in a Nielsen household), but who can blame me when they move it around all the time? I'll definitely be getting all the episodes on DVD though.

I am almost heartbroken this morning. I learned the final 4 episodes will all be airing on Feb. 10th when I have other things I have to do. But apparently Showtime has made a very good offer for the show. Hopefully, the show will end up some where.

That would be cool if Showtime picked them up. I did love the Showtime series Dead Like Me, but it only lasted two seasons. I see by your tagline that you're an Adult Swim fan. Did you notice the comment they made about Arrested Development in those black screens with the white writing they do? It said something about maybe picking it up, but I doubt they were serious.
