AP NewsBreak: Lions Nearing Agreement With Marinelli, Source Says
By Larry Lage
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Rod Marinelli was nearing an agreement with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday night to become their new head coach, a team source told The Associated Press.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team had not made an announcement, said Marinelli was to leave the team's practice facility on Wednesday night, but stayed to negotiate his contract.
Marinelli spent the past 10 seasons in Tampa Bay as defensive line coach. His unit helped establish an NFL record with 69 straight games with at least one sack from 1999-03. He had the title of assistant head coach added in 2002.

The Lions have 1 playoff win since 1963. The problem is the owner - the Ford Family.
Maybe Matt Millen should hire Carmella Decesare as head coach. I would be motivated to play for her.
We can't even get a coordinator? WTF!
So long as Millen is GM the legacy of failure will continue.
I think a struggling NFL team would be wise to let a Freeper coach the team. After all, Freepers really know their football. I would volunteer to be a candidate myself for HC but that would certainly take some of the fun out of watching the games from home. But with the right package, I do think I could be enticed to coach a team.
Looks like the NFC North next year will be decideded between the Viks and Bears, the Packers hired a little kid the other day. :D
Actually, for the 40-someodd Ford's tenure of ownership, make that "Same Crap Different Season".
Well, at least the Packers have some competition for the bottom of the NFC North scrapheap.
