"There were times in my life, in college, when you'd stray away from some of those things because you're a dumb kid and you're being crazy," he said. "But I think I was raised right, and it was time to live by those things. That's why I laugh when people talk about my beard and hair. My grandma would take me into her house if I was a complete stranger looking like this.

"She was a big influence on all of us. I was lucky enough to get to know my grandparents very, very well. Today, a lot of kids don't get grandparent-time. Whether it's grandparents are going to Arizona for the winter or to get away from everybody. It's just not like that anymore. There still is some. We were lucky to have our grandparents. I owe a lot of what I am today to them."

In this day and age of te "million dollar athletes", it is really nice to read about one of them that has his head on straight, and knows from whence he came. His heroes are his family, and that is as good as it will ever be. Thanks for sharing this great story with us. The NFL needs a lot more men like him, than what they seem to have now. Forget the NBA as they will never recover their luster from years past due to the players and the troubles they have.
