Brokeback Mountain Claims Big Four At The Golden Globes
Critically-acclaimed western Brokeback Mountain cleaned up at the Golden Globe Awards last night by claiming four top honors.
The controversial film, which has been banned from some cinemas for its gay themes, took home Best Movie (Drama), Best Screenplay and Best Song prizes at the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards, while Ang Lee picked up the night's Best Director honor from his hero Clint Eastwood.
And there were triple celebrations for Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line when Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix claimed the acting honors in the Comedy/Musical movie category and the film picked up the Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) prize.
The win cost Phoenix dear, however - he bet Witherspoon's husband Ryan Phillippe he wouldn't win a Golden Globe. The Crash star demanded payment as his pal took to the stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
Meanwhile, there was a big upset for the stars of Desperate Housewives during the night's TV awards - all four Best Actress nominees from the show lost out to Mary Louise Parker, who plays a marijuana-selling desperate housewife on cable show Weeds.
But the stars of the hit show didn't miss out on a Best TV Show award - they scooped the coveted prize from Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, My Name is Earl, Entourage and Everybody Hates Chris - and the show's Felicity Huffman claimed the night's Best Actress (Drama) movie award for her role as a transgender man in Transamerica.
The big TV winner was acclaimed mini-series Empire Falls, which claimed two honors - Best Actor (Paul Neuman) and Best Miniseries/TV Movie.

Sorry, not "sent DVDs," sent tickets for screenings, shows. Argh, it's late.
Geisha was a beautiful movie, great photography.
But, I just can't see a reason for seeing a movie that features two saddle horns.
Awesome links. thanks a lot for posting them. Like I previously said, I recognized the inconsistencies and the agenda within the homosexual community a while ago.
Its just like any other choice you make.
thanks

"How is it being shoved down your throat? Where is all this throat shoving taking place? Are people being forced to watch this particular movie?"
completely miss the point, most people commenting have not and will not see the movie. What is being shoved is the themes and agenda inherent in the movie. The previews are subtle at best in an attempt to gain more viewership, and the reviewers applaud the film as a piece of artistry that will stand the test of time, something that will be in the anals of time, oops I mean annals, as an amazing eye opening love story. Its not that! The same reviewers who said the passion was too graphic are cheering at the tastefully done sodomy scene in this movie, which from most accounts, borders on rape.
You have to open your eyes and see how our culture is being systematically desensitized by things like this.
"Family Stone, had a lot they were trying to shove down your throat. She is right."
NO JOKE! that movie was terrible. Its not enough to have a gay couple, one has to be deaf and white, and the other of course has to be black, in the interest of all acceptance. My g/f dragged me to that one and she was appalled.
Then to top it off, they take it over the top to make sarah jessica parkers character look extremely archaic in her view that homosexuality is nurtured into children. The whole family blows up and tells her how wrong she is, and that homosexuality is genetic and unavoidable. Total crap...<----the movie and the point of genetic determinism.
"There is hardly a film or a TV show that doesn't have a gay character in it.
Really. Wow. I hadn't noticed. But now that you mention it, there was something a little fruity about Lord of the Rings and Titanic."
He said "hardly".
Look at the saturation of homosexual characters/themes as opposed to a few years ago. At least you can admit that?
Quaid is straight and its typical of gays to want to classify others as Gay, i.e. Lincoln, who wasn't gay either. Quaid's a cool guy and you don't help your gay agenda by slandering him.
No, I just find it a lot of hysteria over something that I don't believe is as much of a "plot" as you seem to.
It's sad that a "cowboy movie" needs to have any sexual inuendos, or even worse, in it at all. Somehow I can't imagine the Duke and Robert Mitchum collaborating on something like this. Imagine.
Then again, Eastwood seems to be all about this stuff. Maybe his next directed film will be "Hang 'Em Low."
Eastwood is a total disappointment these days. All he wants to do is fit into the Hollywood weirdness just to be lauded as an artistic and great director. His last good movie was Unforgiven. Everything after that has been down hill.
Yeah, agreed. His next few films were "OK" but very un-Eastwood like. His last batch have only made his former fans wonder what the hell happened to him as a person.
funny stuff.
There are no shortage of jokes that apply

Yes, there are more gay characters. But there are also far more television shows and movies in general. If you have trouble finding a movie or television show without a gay character, then maybe you should reconsider your entertainment choices.
The fact is -- some people don't like gay guys. It's a free country in which each of us is free to not like whoever we choose. Conversely, there are people who like gay guys. And again, free country. They are allowed to like whomever they choose.
My gay agenda? Ha! Having spent time with my roommate, who was gay, and seeing what goes on in the gay community, I'm more opposed to homosexuality and the idea of gay marrriage/civil unions/special recognition than just about anyone.
But I was there and saw it with my own eyes. That was most definitely not hetero-male behavior. Maybe there were a few too many drinks or something that night.
Do you ,now Quaid?
And yes, frankly, it pisses me off when you hear gays trying to claim everyone is gay, but honestly, have you ever slid your hand down another man's shoulder and down his arm? See, that's what I'm saying... not normal.
Actually, I'm not gay. I just believe that people should be allowed to live their lives as they see fit.
I also view movies, television, etc. as businesses. I believe that folks should be allowed to run their businesses as they see fit. If nobody buys their product, then they won't be in business for very long.
As for finding something distasteful, again that's a basic freedom.
Those freedoms more or less make up the cultural climate, which is always changing.
I wasn't implying that you were, simply that you have every right to choose to be.
Businesses... yeah i know.
I'm beginning to think I am wasting my fingerprints on you. Again, freedoms are still intact. I still have not suggested removing them. The cultural climate is dominated by the convictions (or lack thereof) and mindset of its population.
I/we, again, are simply announcing our take on that climate and the way we see it should be going.
Again, the minority are dictating to the majority. It sad and it is a dedicated effort by them to bring about a change that accepts all forms of depravity. The same people saying these things are saying that I should apologize to the terrorists for being an American and what I've done to them. It lacks all forms of logic. I dont want to ignore it and I especially dont want my children to be born into a society that encourages this unnatural homosexual behavior, and decides when to introduce it to my children. (like the case in New England, where the grade schooler was given a "diversity packet" that included ethnic food recipes and, of course, a book about gay couples. -the kid was 6 or 7 i believe.) That crap bothers me and I do not want to sit idly by and let in continue to happen.
The homosexuals and their fluffers, have stolen the rainbow, a symbol of christian heritage, and turned it into some symbol of perversion. Next on the docket the institute of marriage, then ...?
We're simply going to have to agree to disagree on the point. I don't particularly see our culture in danger.
