If it ain't Clint and Duke it ain't acting.

Actually, the Duke was a very bad actor, but made up for it with screen presence and a deep understanding of what makes a movie entertaining.

I have to disagree. I think the Duke was a great actor. You have to look at his early films. Stagecoach for instance. When an actor becomes an icon it's hard to separate the actor from the mythology, and it becomes difficult to judge their talent. They come to seem as parodies of themselves.

True, for proof see the series of B-grade westerns he made prior to John Ford's Stagecoach.
