Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And there are many paths to tread
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Garden News! The carrots, lettuce, spinach and of course the radishes have sprouted under the cold frame (which is just the meat chicken's pen I made that I covered in plastic).
Plants seem to like it under there! :-)

Things are good here. Just busy schooling and keeping the house together. G'nad is on days for about two more weeks...it's been great! 4:15 comes early, but it beats him sleeping during the day.
Theboy is vey flexably (not something he got from G'nad) and G'nad can't understand how he gets out of certain moves. It's been a great time for the two of them. G'nad used to wrestle and is helping coach every Tues and Thurs.

Wresting is vey popular here in Oklahoma...much more so than it was in Texas, that I was aware of anyway...makes the news a lot here.
I like it!

It's just been a great time for them to be together doing "manly things". They come home and I say "Oh, did you get hurt...are you ok?" :-)
I'd better go. Unsupervisedchildren=someonegetshurt. :-)

I've got at least one old screen door and some frames of some sort stowed in the garage. I should get them out and see what I can make out of them.
To: HairOfTheDog
Ick. I should think so. :-P

You're raising the chickens for meat now, instead of eggs?
Love fried chicken!

Raised beds are the *way* to go, imo...our beds aren't raised, except for the cinderblock bed, but I would really love it if they were. With railroad ties or cinderblocks...either one...but it's a financial investment I'm not ready to commit to at this location.
But someday...when we get that little bit of land...
Here's our pictures if you missed 'em...

Mrsnad, have you read Mel Bartholomew's book "Square Foot Gardening"? It's great! He's fixin' to come out with a revised edition in February. Updated.

Heh! I raised two meat chickens to age 6 weeks and ate 'em! We have 3 of the original 6 *pet* hens left. Only Jar Jar, who took so long to lay an egg, is still laying.

It's an experiment that's going well for me...I've never used a cold frame before but have wanted to. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

Where did you get the plastic for your cold frame. It's that thick stuff, right. Wonder if a squirrel will gnaw through it.

I just got it at Lowes. It's not the thickest "greenhouse" stuff...I think it's commonly used for drop cloths. I just staplegunned it in place.
