The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Here at the bach pad my city water is barely drinkable. It's got rust in it and is very brown at first, most likely from the pipes in the apartment complex. It'll clear up if you let it run, but it never does taste quite right. Maybe the basic problem is that it ~has~ flavor... and shouldn't... :-)

I drink bottled water here, and I've got one of those 5-gal water bottles, and every couple of weeks I fill it up down at home. I use that for making coffee.

Channel 2 Works for You has even aired a segment on it...and I haven't gotten a notice about the Chlorine byproduct thing in a long time. So they musta done something...

But it's so rusty sometimes it makes your whites look dingy! And my (foolishly white) shower curtain is stained brown at the bottom where the water hits it!

Ummm...kay. Lovely!

I'm rather glad my cats are shorthaired and only barf up grass once in awhile, for the most part.

I remember the water there having a lot of particulates in it years ago... hasn't improved eh?

I guess I associate bottled water with Seattle people for the wrong reasons... maybe it's not a Seattle thing, maybe it's a city thing.

ewwwww. I'd say to try that filter system, but I'd just keep buying it until you can move. I'd hate to know what all was in there. We love our well water!

Theboy has a wrestling tournament this Saturday. His first one. It'll be fun to watch little kids trying to pin another kid to the mat. :-)

Indeed.

Something tells me he'll be good at that! ;-)

Yep, I considered getting a filter for that system you gave me, but can you imagine that black silt or carbon hitting it? It would ruin the filter immediately, I think. You could literally scrape the black gunk up off the bottom of the tub and it stuck to your fingers like charcoal. I was so glad I wasn't washing my hair...getting it off my face woulda been hard!

Sounds like OT knows what it is...carbon used for treatment.

Heh...the carbon gets a lot of stuff out of the water. It's supposed to be allowed to settle out or filtered out before it's released.
