Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And there are many paths to tread
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

No, no! Not email! Snail-mail, certified and return receipt requested! With a request for a response in kind!
I hear you, about rocking the boat, but you may have to, to get what you deserve.
To: 2Jedismom
No, no ... bottling it up is no good.
Matthew vents by drawing pictures, but you have us!

Oh, I didn't want him to write an e-mail. I've learned with homeschooling that things need to be communicated in writing, and your suggestion of certified, return receipt requested is crucial!

Ok...I said I'd drop it but here's the latest.
I just got off the phone with Steve. He said that the secretary said he should have come to her and asked *her* about the need for the 2 hours this semester, instead of asking his advisor. So it's all Steve's fault, according to her...it doesn't matter what his advisor said.
Ok, if that is true (and I have no reason to doubt it) why didn't his advisor say so instead of saying "No, you won't need to take two more hours."
I guess it doesn't make any difference. Just upsetting.
The good thing is, it's still relatively early in the semester and we can fix this. And I will take credit for that, because I hounded Steve to fill out a "intent to graduate" form...just a minor little form. Had he not attempted to fill that form out, he would not have found this out until possibly the end of the semester.

That was my response! I asked "What's the advisor's JOB then?"
Apparently the advisor just makes sure you take the needed classes, and he's not concerned about the university "rulz". If you don't take 2 hours the semester you're expected to graduate, you can't, even if you've already completed all the classes he told you to take.
In this case, Steve has completed all the classwork the advisor told him to take, just not the thesis and the university says you have to have 2 hours the semester you graduate in order to graduate!

Totally no sense. The advisor is the ADVISOR. You know, the one you go to to as for 'advice'. Sheesh!
To: 2Jedismom
Can he still sign up for 2 this semester? And is so it should be done, like yesterday.
To: RMDupree
And apparently the snarky secretary won't tell you if you're in compliance with the rulz...the responsiblity falls on you to make sure.
Which now Steve has thankfully done in time to fix the problem.

He's going to Stillwater on Friday to take care of it. The S.S. is going to see what classes he can sign up for.

What a way to run a railroad. *rolls eyes*
Might as well eliminate the advisor then.

Oh he's useless!
You know what he said to Steve about the thesis yesterday?
I quote:
"I gave it to Dr. So and So (on Steve's committee) and I'm waiting to hear from him...you might remind him."
Two weeks they've had it and Steve's gotta REMIND someone????

Well, Steve did remind the Dr. in Stillwater and he said he would hopefully be ready to meet with Steve on Friday while he's there.
I suspect the guy hasn't done anything with it.
