NFL refereeing has to become a full-time job. This called-back interception and the bogus interference call against Assante Samuel in the Pats/Broncos game were awful calls.
How about changing the rules to allow challenges regarding penalties, in BOTH respects. That is, allow a challenge to a penalty that was called, saying that it shouldn't have been called... And, allow a challenge in a play when a penalty wasn't called, but SHOULD have been called.
While we're on the subject: are teams still allowed only two challenges per game? And is a team charged with a challenge EVEN IF they're correct? If so, that's wrong.
Yes --- one of the worst I ever saw. A "no call" would have been fine, but if there was a call to make, it should have been on the offensive guy for pushing off.
That call was REALLY BAD because it completely changed the game!
Why? So they can be just as good as MLB umpiers? < / sarcasm >
That will never happen, and for good reason. The NFL insists on using officials who are well-paid, highly-respected professionals in other walks of life -- because it makes them far less likely to fix games for gamblers.
