And let's not forget cause #3- there are some NFL rules that are just plain poorly written. Chief among them being the pass interference rule (which all but specifically requires refs to look into a parallel dimension to determine if the pass would have been catchable without the possible interference), and everything that includes the words "football move". And let's not forget the mighty tuck rule which is still on the books.
