The NFL has gone to such great lengths to scrutinize every single bit of contact between receivers and defensive backs in the last couple of years specifically because in big games the Patriots' defensive backs were known to "push the envelope" on the rules regarding downfield contact.

Very good point. The Patriots have reaped a lot of benefit from pushing the envelope in big games since officials tend to call big games a little looser.

"Push the envelope" is a euphmism for mugging receivers. congratulations to the Steelers.
