Well, I guess we could say that he's worked hard to get where he is so he's deserving of a fair shot at the AI contract.
It ~is~ a far cry from having an already famous relative with influence in the music industry.
Or maybe I'm just trying to make an excuse for him to be there because I like him. :-D

I don't know about you, but I've thought that this year's field has started with more of a 'leg up' than in other years. Part of the charm of the show is watching the performers improve and grow.
IMHO, this year's crew started out with more polish than before.
