Any rifle made prior to WWI whether Mauser, DWM, or Ludwig Loewe was made to almost unbelievable standards.
At some time I think they all became the same company.
I read maybe 20 years ago where a manufacturer said that it would cost around $1000 to made one to the same quality as a 98/09 Argentine. That would probably be around $1500 today.
I ordered one from Walter Craig in Selma around 1977. It was brand new with the original test target signed by a Herr Ritzman. He had fired a slightly under two inch group at 200 meters. That with open sights. I got to needing money back in the late 80's and sold it for $400 which was one of the few times I sold one for more than it was worth, at least by market standards.

i'm prolly wrong but i think DWM was state owned/operated. the Deutche-Waffen-Munitions-Werk.
even my M-48 would prolly be cost prohibitive today for what it would have to sell for.
there's just no substitute for machined billet steel...

"anybody out there own a Mauser?"I'm lucky enough to own a few dozen. Here's one (Model 71/84) sunbathing in the backyard.
