Sutherland set for 24 movie

Actor Kiefer Sutherland is keen to start filming a big screen version of his hit TV series 24, as soon as production on the show wraps up later this year .

The show is currently filming its fifth season and producers are planning to shoot the movie while the show is on a break, according to moviehole.net.

And the actor is convinced his audience would relish a feature film version of the hit show.

Sutherland says, "I think there's always a way to actually deal with the idea of 24 as a film that would completely be separate from 24 the television show. And by that I mean the characters could be different. They could be completely unrelated, and I think that would still be effective."

The star last night won the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Drama Series for his portrayal of Special Agent Jack Bauer.

He suggests a sixth season of the show would start filming after the big screen version was complete.

'24' Movie In The Works

The hit Fox drama 24 is heading to the big screen, according to star Kiefer Sutherland. The actor confirmed this weekend that a 24 movie script is in development with an eye towards filming next summer. Sutherland told MTV News that the 24 film won't be real time like the show but will be a two-hour summary of a day's events. There's no word on whether it'll be a prequel, but Sutherland didn't rule out the return of some past characters like President Palmer, Victor Drazen, or Jack Bauer's wife Teri.

In addition to a 24 movie, fans can count on three more seasons of the show. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both report that Sutherland has extended his series contract for another three years. The deal is worth $30 million and makes Sutherland one of TV's highest paid actors. He'll be a 24 executive producer with the new contract and he gets to develop other projects for Fox through his production company.

While his work on 24 and various film commitments demand a lot of Sutherland's time, he's still focused on the set after five years of the demanding job. C. Thomas Howell, an old friend of Sutherland's and a 24 guest star, said Sutherland is always on his toes: ["I was extremely impressed with his work ethic and his ability to come to work so focused and incredibly prepared -- every scene, not just every day, but every scene. And you hear all these ridiculous rumors about how he parties or he goes out, he's this he's that. None of that reflects at work. The man doesn't have the time."]

'24' PRESIDENT RELISHES BAD GUY ROLE

The Fox drama 24 has its share of bad guys this season and one of them holds the highest office in the land. President Logan has tried to have his wife killed, ordered the release of poison on civilians, and has the least trustworthy staff ever assembled in the Oval Office.

Actor Greg Itzin plays President Logan on the show and he told LAUNCH that he enjoys being TV's worst-ever leader of the free world: ["Your TV presidents are usually straight arrows, father figures, like in Commander In Chief, and this is what I think America wants, would be the idealized President. I think it's so wonderfully dangerous that the guys at 24 have decided to give you a President that you wouldn't want in any way, shape, or form. And I'm lucky to be able to be the guy who does it."] SOUNDCUE (:18 OC: . . . who does it.)

A great summation of Monday:

Or, maybe not. As they are about to leave the bank, they notice that Biff Henderson's men have surrounded the bank. This gives Jack an idea. "Hey, imagine this Fight Club scenario. A bunch of Biff Henderson's para-military goons against the LA SWAT Team. Who would win?" "Would Ana Lucia be on the SWAT Team," Shaft asks. "Let's find out," Jack says. He has Bank President Deadmeat trip the silent alarm . . .

What S4GF means and other tidbits.
