You know, this "dumb mole" thing reminds me of a couple of other shows. where someone was playing an imbecile or retard, to get the confidence of someone, when in FACT, they were the HEAD of some conspiracy!!
Firestarter comes to mind. If you recall, George C. Scott played a "slow, timid janitor" that befriended Drew Barrymore, so he the could get her confidence, when in fact he was the one in charge of the WHOLE group out to "use her for bad".
And in a Mission impossible episode, called "Operation Rogosh", The IMF leader Dan Briggs(pre Peter graves), pretended to be a whiny, incompetent lawyer, for Fritz Weaver, who was a terrorist, planning a CBW strike on the US.
