LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jack Bauer has been through hell and it's starting to show. Over the last four years - one day at a time - the superhero of Fox's "24" has saved humanity from terrorists, beaten confessions out of close friends, battled heroin addiction, discovered his murdered wife's body, and, last year, even faked his own death. All with little regard for himself.
But now, as the hit series starts up its fifth season with a two-night, four-part marathon (Sunday and Monday, 8 o'clock, EST) , the stress on Bauer, an agent for the fictional federal Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU), is finally taking its toll.
"This time, something happens to Jack on a very personal level that pisses him off," says Bauer's alter-ego, star Kiefer Sutherland. "Because he's presumed dead, a lot of the boundaries he was restricted by - by virtue of who he was working for - simply don't exist now. And he's mad."

I just watched part of episode 1 season 1 and the bad guys are the usual white conservative pro-America types. I'm not really into this Hollywood BS. Is season 1 worth watching or is season 2, 3, 4 and 5 any better. I hear Rush and others think the show is great.
You got to watch all of them to get the perspective. You can't watch 2 without 1 or 3 without 2. This season, so far, has been the best but hey, I am addicted.

I rented season 4 and I must say, that this time they honestly portrayed Arab fanatics as the main bad guys. Yes, there were some "evil white people" but they were nothing more than pawns used by the Arabs. In addition, the fact that the show attacked Amnesty International ("Amnesty Global" on the show) and Michael Moore convinced me that this isn't your typical Hollywood BS.
hey Thanks, I think I'll take the plunge and keep watching. I like Kiefer's character Jack and the action looks real, even the pot smoking teenagers, I guess. Nothing else worth watching on TV these days for me.
