Jack's Back for Another Season on '24'
AP/Kerrville Daily Times ^ | 1-12-06 | MATT HURWITZ

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jack Bauer has been through hell and it's starting to show. Over the last four years - one day at a time - the superhero of Fox's "24" has saved humanity from terrorists, beaten confessions out of close friends, battled heroin addiction, discovered his murdered wife's body, and, last year, even faked his own death. All with little regard for himself.

But now, as the hit series starts up its fifth season with a two-night, four-part marathon (Sunday and Monday, 8 o'clock, EST) , the stress on Bauer, an agent for the fictional federal Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU), is finally taking its toll.

"This time, something happens to Jack on a very personal level that pisses him off," says Bauer's alter-ego, star Kiefer Sutherland. "Because he's presumed dead, a lot of the boundaries he was restricted by - by virtue of who he was working for - simply don't exist now. And he's mad."

"In addition to Sutherland and Weller, "24" has been able to attract other top-notch talent from the feature-film world, including Sean Astin and JoBeth Williams, who both joined the cast this year."

Great show. Always interesting to hear Rush talk about his visit to the set; a lot of dittoheads there, it seems.

I wonder if pissing off Jack is anything like pissing off Cartman? Jack seems like the type that, if push came to shove, could make you eat your own parents.

Left me off I see...

Jack being back and being pissed is going to be so awesome. With every season, I keep thinking that they can't possibly raise the bar any farther... every season I'm wrong.

This year, I'm going in EXPECTING the bar to be raised! I cannot WAIT! Me and The Girlfriend get to watch it when our new puppy, Bosch. Welcome back, Jack!!!

a lot of the boundaries he was restricted by - by virtue of who he was working for - simply don't exist now.

This is a guy who walks into CTU, shoots a guy, and requests a hacksaw so he can take the head with him.

I didn't realize Jack was a guy who felt he had a lot of restrictive boundaries before ;~D

Guys, I'm so glad you have come up with the Live thread, but I'll admit, my computer isn't in a room with a TV, so expect me to come in and comment after the show is over. Either way, thanks for adding me to any 24 ping list.

We won't be on the thread ~during~ the show either, unfortunately... We're on the west coast so we'll be a couple hours behind and don't want the spoilers :~\
