Jack's Back for Another Season on '24'
AP/Kerrville Daily Times ^ | 1-12-06 | MATT HURWITZ

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jack Bauer has been through hell and it's starting to show. Over the last four years - one day at a time - the superhero of Fox's "24" has saved humanity from terrorists, beaten confessions out of close friends, battled heroin addiction, discovered his murdered wife's body, and, last year, even faked his own death. All with little regard for himself.

But now, as the hit series starts up its fifth season with a two-night, four-part marathon (Sunday and Monday, 8 o'clock, EST) , the stress on Bauer, an agent for the fictional federal Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU), is finally taking its toll.

"This time, something happens to Jack on a very personal level that pisses him off," says Bauer's alter-ego, star Kiefer Sutherland. "Because he's presumed dead, a lot of the boundaries he was restricted by - by virtue of who he was working for - simply don't exist now. And he's mad."

Cool, I won't spoil it for you, don't worry.

From a 24 article in the Sacramento Bee:

"There's a point mid-way through these four hours when Chloe (the terrific Mary Lynn Rajskub) is watching Jack heading for an FBI agent he needs to, uh, subdue. She's with someone new to this _ that's all I'm saying, it could be anyone _ and Chloe tells the person not to sweat it.

"Relax," she says, "he's really good at this."

Yes, he is. They all are. If you've never watched "24," this looks like a good time to start. If you're a fan, you're gonna be thrilled it's back."

Just once I'd like to see Jack eat a sandwich. He never eats, and he never goes to the bathroom.

Sure he does. It's just during the commercials...like us!

"We shoot this like one big movie," explains co-executive producer Jon Cassar, one of two directors who helm the majority of the episodes. "The film actors are used to having one director throughout a project, which is what we essentially offer them here. They're quite at home."

And it shows...that is what I love most about the show.

I promise you that Jack will follow protocol no matter what! What would go good with a "24" marathon? I think maybe pizza on Monday and fried chicken, steaks or hoagies on Tuesday. What say?

Sounds like a good protocol to me.

Is there any way I can find out what happened (in some detail) last season? I stopped watching 24 when the bad guys were white guys again (this may have been two seasons ago), but I want to watch it again. I wonder why FX doesn't run a marathon. The last season DVD isn't out yet. I can't watch it now without knowing what has happened.

Through a marathon, I just finished last season today. Several times I HAD to watch more than one segment, just because it was so good.

I thought the missile flight time was a little long, and no, that was NOT a "cruise missile." And yes, toward the end, I was getting damn good at predicting exactly what would happen. When Raines went into surgery a second time, I said, "Hmm. I bet they have to bring in a suspect and make Jack choose him or Raines."

That VP looked so Nixon-like as to be creepy.

And I did miss Elisha Cuthbert this season. Chloe is just too weird, althought the "Chloe-fries-the-bad-guy" scene had me jumping out of the chair.

I keep saying, I would love to see Jack and Vic Mackey of "The Shield" work together. Talk about the "Justice League of America!"

That was SOOOO good last night. Waiting with bated breath for the next one.

We just borrowed season 3 (which was probably my least favorite overall) and finished catching up on stuff we've missed. The inside of the boxed set has promo pics of all the major cast members, and Kiefer's is by far the best. I ended up scanning it in and using it as a desktop. LOL

So which thread is the OFFICIAL thread? There's about five of them. One got locked for being a duplicate but this one seems to be this one doesn't seem to show up when I search for 24.

Don't think it's a good idea to piss off Edgar, either. He's no pushover!

I just watched my first episode last night and I can tell I'm gonna get hooked. Now I have a dilemma tonight between 24 and the SU/Connecticut game. Damn!!

"24" will eventually be out on DVD, if that's any consolation.
