In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
dubiety \doo-BY-uh-tee; dyoo-\, noun
1. The condition or quality of being doubtful or skeptical.
2. A matter of doubt.
Example sentences:
Kennedy and O'Connor may think that Title 3 has been violated, but O'Connor and the chief justice are not convinced that the Supreme Court was meant to litigate challenges under that federal statute, and their dubiety here is shared by Justices Scalia and Souter.
--Hadley Arkes, "A Morning at the Court," National Review, December 2, 2000
I want every inconsistency, every dubiety, every ambiguity left in.
--David Maclean, quoted in David Hencke, "Tories plot hunt bill dirty tricks," The Guardian, January 17, 2001
Etymology: Dubiety is from Late Latin dubietas, from Latin dubius, "doubtful, uncertain."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Yeah it finally did and it's actually a gorgeous day.............but I actually heard the bus turning the corner before I saw it, the fog was still that bad at 9:20.
Biden is Sen. Hairplug, but they keep falling out. That's why I can't watch him. All I see is a clump of hair falling out of his head.
The guys are the radio are just tearing into Kennedy, Biden, shummer and the rest of the Dems..........and the one co-host is a screaming lisftist.
Peggy is so great! Thanks for bringing her in.
Welcome aboard! You're truly not a Newbie. Heck, you've been around six days. LOL! Or more . . .
cspan was putting ava to sleep so she is here helping me type with her foot
LOL!!!!
I refuse to put the TV on.
At least with the radio on, I can hear other stuff besides the hearing.
In a half hour I'm going to switch stations to one in New Jersey.........the Strippers were marching on the Capitol at 1pm (instigated by 2 radio hosts) to protest NJ's new smoking ban..........the show promises to be a hoot!!!
gosh i wish i was napping!
You will get an education in here in more ways than one.
Nice poem, Petronski!
she is now practicing her smacking bubble making, the napping urge is over -one finger hunting and pecking is slow --bbl
Who is Senator Cute as a Button?
Sessions.
I have to change my tagline, because we are having a bright sunny day and the snow has all melted away.
I hate fog worse than anything. In CA you never know when you're going to go through a patch of it. I've been so lost in that pea soup. There really isn't any fog here per se. We do have another large particulate and now small particulate day. It's all supposed to blow out tomorrow, thank goodness.
It's a rotten shame. How do they decide which DVD is appropriate? Only Walt Disney or anything PG13?
Ahhhhhhh! Give her a little tickle on the foot for me!
All your talk about fog made me realize my tagline got outdated........here we go.
Thanks, ti. I'll look for him. I'm seeing old stuff now. Fat Ted Kennedy is asking inane questions. And that is his sister behind Alito. I took a good look.
