A 20-year-old man was arrested after he admitted that he killed and beheaded a dog in Springtown in northern Parker County.
The dog was a stray dog that had a litter of puppies and that neighbors said befriended children in the neighborhood.
Eleven-year-old Christina DuPree found the dog's body sliced open and the head was left in a front yard.
"They would never feed her so I had to do something so that the puppies wouldn't die," DuPree said of the stray dog she tried to care for.
Police said the way the dog was killed was a serious animal cruelty crime. Also Online
Jim Douglas reports
"The dog was decapitated and the sword was stuck through the skull and the sword was stuck into the ground," said Deputy Bryan Eddlemon, Parker County Sheriff's Department.
Ricky Moore, 20, was the DuPree family's neighbor and was arrested for the dog's killing.
Sheriff's deputies said he left a phone message with the trailer park manager that described the killing.
"He explained that he went back into his residence and discovered the dog on his property and retrieved his sword and explained how he went after the dog at that point," Eddlemon said.
DuPree said the dog only growled when trying to protect her puppies.
"I called that dog 'Momma Dog,'" DuPree said. "I would always pet her."
Animal Control took in six puppies and immediately adopted out three of them.
"We have been trying to capture that dog for about three weeks," said an Animal Control worker. "She wouldn't come to anybody, [but] she would come to the little children around there because she loved children."
Investigators said the suspect said the dog attempted to bite him. Moore is free on bond, but could face up to two years in jail.
Three female puppies of the dog are up for adoption at the Weatherford Shelter that can be reached at (817) 598-4111.
Need to check his yard for missing kids...
Sorry--the end of the title should read (Momma dog killed, puppies up for adoption)
The guy looks like a pitbull..
Stupid A hole. I just can't imagine anyone doing that, but then again there is a terrible scurge going around these days in all corners of this earth. God help these innocent animals.
He looks like "Farva" from Super Troopers.
He's one of the cops in the movie that backstabs his team to get the job at the rival's police department because his dept is gonna get shut down.
Put him in a small room full of hungry Dobermans and see how long he'll last.
Killing a dog should never get a man a 2 year jail sentence.
---What a jerk. Poor doggy. :(
"We have been trying to capture that dog for about three weeks," said an Animal Control worker."
This line is the central issue. What gives local government the authority to take tax money and support the obviously incompetent? Three weeks and they failed to catch a targeted animal?
Not to mention being stupid enough to admit such incompetence to the media.
As for the killing of a dog which seems to have be agressive to a human (and I assume on the human's property), since the animal control "workers" (term used loosely) didn't do their job, the human dispatched the dog with a sword.
After three weeks, to expect the goobers in the gooberment office to suddenly become competent is laughable. And since Liberal citizens no doubt made discharging a firearm ilegal, a sword was the only choice, it would seem.
To any person who has seen what a dog can do to a human, that a human chose to not be bitten seems reasonable to me.
Summary: Allow the citizen to defend himself with his Constutitionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms.
Guns are better than swords. And we were once guaranteed the right to have and use them.
One more thing - Fire The Dogcatchers who can't catch the dog!
And jail the cops & prosecutor for stupidity. That ought to be a jailable offense in this case.
If raping a 7 yr old child for 4 years gets 60 days then this guy should get at least a stern finger shaking.
What should it get him?
A part of his anatomy should be severed. Sick, sick. He'll be, if not already, a serial killer.
That's a pretty sweeping statement. What about a police/military dog being killed in the line of duty while performing lifesaving duties?
We don't know all the facts here, but a judge and jury might look at this guy's methodolgy used in "dispacthing" the dog as a tad bit extreme and consider a punishment that might deter violent tendencies against humans. Remember little Jeffrey Dahmer's relationship with animals.
When they start jailing doctors that perform abortions and executing mothers that kill their children ok.Untill then no human should go to jail for killing an animal.
What a sad and sickening story, but I'm glad some of the puppies have already been adopted.
You would think the nitwits would have had enough sense to enlist the aid of the kids....
Untill then no human should go to jail for killing an animal.
You don't think decapitating an innocent animals head warrants some jail.
Yeah, whatever you nut.
Good luck with your flamewar.
Would it had been better if thrown out a window or being taken to the vet and being put down. Animal control was trying to catch this dog. No doubt it would have been put to sleep by animal control. Why is it ok for law enforcement to shoot an animal in the owners own back yard and they get a pass but if the owner shoots the dog he goes to jail? How do you think chickens are killed before they are eaten? Most get their heads chopped off.How about poison, most rats and mice are done in that way. When I filet fish they are still alive, should I go to jail also. An animal is just that, an animal. No human should go to jail for killing one or have a criminal record because of it. Ever seen a horse be put down because of a broken leg? A bullet to the brain by the owner works as well as chemicals in the blood by a vet.Yeah maybe this guy was a little sick but jail time? We have robbers and murderers walking the streets with nothing more than probation.
MotleyGirl70 has posted her IQ in her screen name, evidently. She seems to have completely missed the nexus between the animal control laws and the vets who now can bill for "euthanizing" animals that once were shot.
Cost comparison to taxpayers: $0.00 for citizen dispatched animal versus $20 per animal for a vet to "euthanize" the same critter. And the $20 may be far more if the vets and the animal whacko/animal control crowd has a "contract".
You should see the spiffy empires these bachelor's children have created in many counties in the Sheeples Republic of FloriDUH.
