Actually, to be picky, poodles do hunt. They are the original water retrieving dog.

I don't know about hunting, but my YorkiePoodle can catch squirrels. There are a lot of half tail tree rats running around the neighborhood. He's a bullet! But he wouldn't last long in the woods.

Standard poodles do indeed hunt, and very well too. They are big, fast doggies, very good natured. And they can swim too.
