Stranded on an island off the coast of Panama,
16 strangers must live together and
compete for the million-dollar prize.

This time, the castaways will begin their competition as four tribes:
older men, older women, younger men and younger women.

At least one Survivor each week will be banished
to a separate island miles away from camp.

How will this change the game?
Who will outwit, outplay, and outlast all others?
Don’t miss a single episode of:

SURVIVOR; PANAMA “EXILE ISLAND”

Hatch Guilty of Failing to Pay Taxes By RAY HENRY,
Associated Press Writer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Richard Hatch, who won $1 million in the first season of "Survivor," was found guilty Wednesday of failing to pay taxes on his winnings.

Hatch was handcuffed and taken into custody after U.S. District Judge Ernest Torres said he was a potential flight risk.

He also was convicted of evading taxes on $327,000 he earned as co-host of a Boston radio show and $28,000 in rent on property he owned. He was acquitted of seven bank, mail and wire fraud charges.

Hatch, 44, faces up to 13 years in prison and a fine of $600,000. Sentencing was scheduled for April 28.

Jurors deliberated for less than a day after more than a week of testimony.

Besides the tax charges, prosecutors accused Hatch of using money donated to his charitable foundation, Horizon Bound, an outdoors program he planned to open for troubled youth. He allegedly spent the money on expenses including tips to a limousine driver, dry cleaning and tens of thousands of dollars on improvements to a house he owned.

Near the end of the trial, an explanation for Hatch's failure to pay taxes was raised by his lawyer — but never mentioned in the jury's presence. Hatch's lawyer, Michael Minns, said Hatch caught fellow contestants cheating and struck a deal with the show's producers to pay his taxes if he won. But Hatch was never asked about the allegation when he testified.

Instead, Minns told jurors that Hatch, who lives in Newport, was the "world's worst bookkeeper" and said his client never meant to do anything wrong.

Hatch testified that he thought producers were supposed to pay his "Survivor" taxes, and said the donations he took from his charity were far less than the money he had already poured into it.

More than five years after winning, Hatch remains reality TV's most famous villain, the man viewers loved to hate. He first captured their attention for shedding his clothes on "Survivor," prompting David Letterman to call him "the fat naked guy."

But he made the biggest impression — and won the show — by scheming his way to the top. He reveled as squabbles among his fellow contestants thinned their ranks, connived with teammates to stick together then pitted his allies against each other.

Early on, he used his success on the show to get more work, including a "Got Milk?" ad and an appearance on "Survivor All-Stars" — where he was voted off by fellow contestants.

He also appeared on TV game shows, including "The Weakest Link." That appearance, made on behalf of Horizon Bound, netted a $10,000 donation to his charity camp — money prosecutors said was among the funds misused.

But Hatch's shrewdness did not serve him well in the legal world. A year ago, prosecutors offered him a deal: plead guilty to two counts of tax evasion and they would recommend less than the maximum 10-year sentence.

After initially agreeing, Hatch walked away, retaining Minns as his new lawyer and appearing on NBC's "Today" show to claim that CBS was supposed to pay the taxes.

Prosecutors responded with a grand jury, which indicted Hatch on 10 counts carrying a maximum of 73 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines.

During the trial, prosecutors called witnesses, including Mark Burnett, executive producer of "Survivor."

Burnett testified that Hatch's "Survivor" contract stated he would have to pay taxes on his prize. Minns never asked him about the cheating allegation, and Burnett and CBS declined to comment about it.

premiering Thursday, February 2nd at 8 pm ET/PT.

Good Morning fellow Survivor FReeks!

As you know, our favorite show is only one week away and since we have a number of new pingees to the thread, I thought I would refresh your memories about my posts each week.

On the morning of each show, (usually Thursdays) I post any spoilers of the week along with my picks. As with all spoilers, each should be taken with a certain degree of skepticism. Sometimes they are factual, but most times they are based on wishful thinking and nothing else.

Usually, on Monday mornings, I will post a recap of the previous episode. Many of you on this ping list have come to expect my recaps to be filled with “witty” insights. Try as I might, sometimes I’m just not in the mood for witty and succumb to just being downright sarcastic. And sometimes, I just don’t feel like commenting on the show. When that happens, I’ll just cut and paste whatever the official SeeBS website has listed as a recap. The reason I do this on Monday, is that some pingees TiVo or tape the show and don’t have a chance to watch it before the weekend.

Since this season occurs during the NCAA playoffs (more commonly referred to as March Madness) and since SeeBS usually schedules a broadcast on Thursday nights, they sometimes move Survivor to Wednesday night. When this happens (if it happens) I’ll post my picks on Wednesday morning.

Anyway, like I said, the show starts on one week, so I hope every one is as stoked as I am about this new season.

Now, I thought I would provide you with a few snippets of information regarding this season. These are all culled from various spoiler websites. Most can be taken as true, however, a few may be just red herrings. I’ll let you decide.

1. The main theme this season will be “Exile Island”. After each Reward Challenge, the losing tribe will have to pick one player to be “banished” to “Exile Island”. That player will only be given one bucket of water and a machete. No food, no shelter, no fire and they will have to remain there until the next Immunity Challenge.

2. There will again be an individual immunity idol. This idol is hidden somewhere on “exile island”. The twist this season is that the person who finds it does not have to surrender it at Tribal Council before the vote. He or she can hold onto it and only use it if they receive the most votes at TC. When that happens, whichever player has received the second highest number of votes gets the boot. Could make for some interesting Tribal Councils.

3. The initial tribal names are as follows:
Vivero - Younger Men - Green Buffs
La Mina - Older Men - Orange Buffs
Casaya - Older Females - Purples Buffs
Bayoneta - Younger Females - Blue Buffs

4. For all the hoopla about this season having 4 tribes, it won’t last long. In fact rumor has it that the second episode has the 4 tribes being split up into two tribes in a schoolyard “pick-em” type division. One of the new tribes will have yellow buffs.

5. Tribal Council will be held in a manmade cave this season.

Well, that’s all I have for now. If anybody has anything they would like to add, feel free. Till then,

Take care,

FReepmail me if you want added to, or removed from the Official Survivor Ping List.

Thanks, cuz. Looking forward to the new season. Loved Guatemala! I rate it at the top (of the season's I've seen (1-6). 'Course it's the only one I've seen "live", so to speak (not on OLN).

What was your opinion of S11?

Exile Island sounds like it could be fun. :-)

My opinion of S-11 can be summed up in one comment.
S-11 would have been a whole lot better without the return of Stepheme and Bobby Jon.

So therefore, my updated ranking of most to least favorite seasons would be:

S-1 “Palau Tiga” (a.k.a. “Borneo”) (I think the first season is always the best, even though the fat naked gay guy won, and Jeff Probst was a rookie.)
S-10 “Palau”
S-7 “Pearl Island”
S-2 “The Australian Outback”
S-11 “Guatemala”
S-9 “Vanuatu”
S-4 “Marquesas”
S-3 “Africa”
S-6 “Amazon”
S-5 “Thailand”
S-8 “All Star Survivor” (a.k.a. A.S.S.) (I don’t think anybody actually liked this one.)
