Texas junior quarterback Vince Young plans to enter the NFL draft and forgo his final year of college, a close family friend said today. Young plans to make the announcement this afternoon at a press conference in Austin.
"He has the blessing of God, the pastor and his family," said Yolanda Lezine, Young's godmother and the family media's spokeswoman. "It's his decision. Everybody is going to support him a 110 percent."
Young capped off his career Wednesday night, rallying the Longhorns from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat two-time defending national champion Southern California, 41-38, in the Rose Bowl.
The Madison product will hire Bus Cook as his agent. Cook is also the agent for Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, Young's mentor, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

You obviously have never been to Big 12 country...particularly the Southern part....There is no bigger rivalry in the country that OU-TX...and with rare drunken exception both sides treat each other with respect...
Nope. But we will see. If OSU comes into Austin at #1, and I think they will, you can bet Texas fan will have something for the OSU fans.
And it's obvious that you guys don't know what to expect in Big Ten country.
Michigan does it to OSU and MSU
MSU does it to Michigan and Penn State
Penn State does it to everyone.....
FYI...I went to the University of Illinois...played a little ball there in the 60's and have been to Columbus...and even back then the OSU fans were not kind to visitors...I am here to tell you that for the most part you will be treated with respect...unless of course you come with a Yankee attitude and then you might get a less than traditional welcome.
LenDale's predicted draft position has been greatly overstated here on FR the last week or so. Unless something really changes at the combine (if he attends), White will not be drafted until the middle of the first round.
White may end up being a great back in the NFL, but his projected draft position is now predicted by most to be in middle of the first round.
Well...when I was there one of my teammates was a fellow by the name of Butkus...you are probably too young to remember..but Woody Hayes damn sure would....we beat him..won the Big Ten in '63 and the Rose Bowl...and then I went and played war and have lived in the south since....If it weren't for relatives and occasional business reasons I would never go north of the MD line..(That's Mason Dixon for you yungun's) Have a Great Day and Thanks for your Service.
That's a nice little print-friendly quip for the paper. Those of us who follow Texas football know of the improvement Vince has made, with help from mentors in the NFL as well as coaches in Austin.
I've been to dozens of big ten games; they have no monopoly on rivalry or competition. I lived in Ohio for 22 years. There are more white trash POS fans of Ohio State than any other school I know of.
Couldn't have said it better myself...Those Union jobs pay well in Ohio and therefore brain deads can afford OSU tickets..
He was guaranteed to be a Top 2 pick. The Texans could get him as the hometown boy and the Saints just need a QB. You leave for the pros if you're going to go in the Top 5. It's stupid not to.
mason dixon?
Gee let's see here, I ONLY lived about 15 miles west of Gettysburg, I don't have ANY idea what the Mason Dixon line is...
and I HAVE lived in the south as well. No one region of this country has anything over the other. All have their peaks and their valleys, so to speak and it's CLEARLY all in the eye of the beholder.
Except for Pennsylvania. All those damned inbreds I lived around in a certain area of PA can just play in traffic.
Oh, and you sell high. Vince will never be a higher stock than he is today.
I think Carr is actually pretty good. I don't think many new QBs would be winning with that team.
Usually it's more like the other way around. Being on a bad team can ruin a quarterback.
Mike you're a heckuva guy...now you know where OSU fans come from...Hell if you live in West Texas you probably go further to watch a movie than it is from Columbus to both of those towns!!
"We, as OSU fans, can always say that we aren't Notre Dame or Michigan fans."
Yes, they certainly have their flaws as well; for some reason UM and ND students think they are the most brilliant youngsters on the face of the earth. One time I was at Notre Dame for a game (rooting for ND) and my buddies and I were beating a bunch of ND students in that flip-cup drinking game. One of them said to me "Yeah, well my SAT score is higher than yours", and another said "Why didn't you go to school here if you like it so much, what's the matter, you couldn't get in??"
FYI, my brother went to Ohio State and my sister to Notre Dame.
Gee you're a big big guy.
Must be nice to have a trophy for a change. I just wonder if you had a coach that doesn't normally choke in big games how dominant Texas would have been.
too bad you don't know squat about Columbus.
It's also kinda funny how you TexASS fans will talk down to OSU fans, when OSU fans were practically the only ones outside of the Big XII giving you any shot against USC. Short memories? nah.....not YOU!!!!!
Keep talking too....
I think OSU will be taking that away from you next year.
yeah.......I've noticed that too...
but if you look at the school rankings, especially the engineering and medical fields, OSU is beating them both like a drum right now.....
