It's this type of genetic mutation that the Evol-Doers are pinning their hopes on. Just wait a couple of million years and all cats will have one eye.

And we will all be ruled by Apes, who will force us to eat Soylent Green.

A genetic mutation. No wonder the poor kitty only lived a day. Cats are perfect pets with minimal demands. They're wonderful in every way.

Ragdolls are cats bred to be completely passive. They're the opposite of Siamese which are bred to be vocal, active and dependent on people.

I used to get Cats and Cat Fancy Mag (way back in the 80's). I remember the Ragdoll was trying to be an accepted breed. My first cat was a Ruddy Abyssinian sired in a loving home not a kennel. He was true to his breed and a real love. I have had many other cats since then and they were homeless Tabbies. I did find this interesting site which goes into mutations and genetic defects of cats. The owner of Cy could ship the body for genetic testing as well.

This site has almost the exact same picture (can't link) of a one eyed cat. It isn't albino though.
"CYCLOPIA

Cyclopia or synophthalmia (known medically as holoprosencephaly (HPE)) is a gross lethal deformity of the skull. The eyes are fused into a single enlarged eye that is placed below the nose (the nose may or may not form, if it forms it resembles a proboscis). Much of the face may be missing, such that the eye and proboscis (if present) are placed near the crown of the skull. Cyclopia results from a failure of the embryo's forebrain to divide into 2 hemispheres. It can result from defective genes or from certain toxins. These seem to interrupt development by interfering with a protein called Sonic hedgehog (Shh). Severe cases of cyclopia result in stillbirth or in death within a few hours of birth."

Hoax. B.S. AP got hoodwinked. It is not like they have a corner on good, well researched reporting.

All kittens are born with blue eyes, and they are not open after one day. And even if he somehow managed to be a mutant whose eye was open, ALL Ragdolls have blue eyes. This kitten would not have had the genetic ability to have a brown eye.

And it is not even a cat eye! Look at the pupil.

Too bad. I would have taken him in. Just another of our brood.

I think cats mostly breath through their noses so how was this little guy breathing?

I've got two Persians no one wanted because they're 'defective' as far as the breed goes when showing. That's the bad side of over breeding and inbreeding these cats (and dogs too).

The link doesn't work so it's only speculation but is this little guy from a kitty mill?

My wife has a Ruddy Abby. Talk about a majestic cat, they look like little mountain lions.

When I was in med school, we had a baby born like this who lived only a couple days...there is major problems with the brain, so they don't live..

So I feel sorry for the kitty, but more sorry for the baby and her parents...

The myth of the "cyclops" is probably based on this congenital malformation...
