Prefer access to serious mountains and open country if possible. Would like reasonable cost of living and low taxes. Maybe something like Colorado Springs but may a smaller community hidden away somewhere. Thanks in advance.

Carson City, NV. You have access to Sierra Nevada Mountains that cross into California. Good thing is that you live in a state with low taxes, offering an array of outdoor activities, whether you hunt, fish, hike, ski, etc...

It's a small community and still is the State Capital of Nevada. The whether is seasonal. You get snow, rain, heat, etc...

There are a variety of lakes, and in the summer you can go to the mountains to cool off in one of the mountain rivers or lakes. Overall, it's a conservative community in northern Nevada. It's nothing like Las Vegas.

Tennessee.

No state income tax, favorable, mild weather throughout the year, excellent geography (near the center of America), and plenty of jobs and cheap housing. TN is literally a gold mine, and if Gov Doyle is re-elected by brain-dead cheeseheads here in WI, I'm hitting the road.

We sorta like Western, NC on two acres of Lake James shoreline in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

On New Year's Day, we went for a three hour boat ride on The Lake and had a picnic with several other neighboring boaters on the Lake. Ssssh, don't tell liberals. They'll bring their RAP friends into the neighborhood.

I say this with tongue only half in cheek...Riverside County, CALIFORNIA....Googleize our demographics, and you'll see we're as Red-state, or more, than many flyover states.

We've got everything you could desire in your first sentence above....re the second sentence - well, we've got a bit of work to do - but Prop. 13 still lives!!

It depends on what you like.

For example, if you like to go to a chamber music recital three times a week, then Manhattan is for you. If you're a surfer, then southern California.

You have to consider that the whole idea of conservatism is not to let politics control everything.

Colorado Springs is very Conservative, but so much of it seems to be only religiously based.
