It's offensive...hideous. Yes, we have constitutional freedom of expression, but we also have a moral responsibility to avoid ridiculing religions in such a way as to defame them. If one believes in a need criticize a religion, one should do so only analytically, with honesty, good evidence and no intent to harm anyone.
Raunchy 'South Park' Virgin Mary Episode Angers Catholics
Associated Press by way of NBC11 9DEC05
"
The cartoon, which runs on Comedy Central, features an episode this week titled "Bloody Mary," in which a South Park character claims to have been sprayed with blood from a body orifice of a Virgin Mary statue. When Pope Benedict investigates, he declares that she's just having her period."
That's grotesque stinking thinking and not for television, IMO.

You will get flamed unmercifully for telling it like it is. There are a lot of people here who excuse anything South Park does, no matter how vile.

Not to mention theologically incorrect.

How so? If we have freedom of religion, and freedom of speech, then we also have freedom to criticize other people's, or even our own, religions. I'll be the first to admit that South Park doesn't exactly do it tactfully, but it usually has a good message in there.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. Its for mature audiences - before the show there is a disclaimer that says it is offensive.

Then don't watch it.
Anyone who feels they can find healing or other aspects of their faith in a freakin' statue DESERVES ridicule. There's a commandment about "false idols"...and a "miraculous bleeding statue" is as false an idol as there can be.

I agree with you more than 100%, if that's possible. I should ping the list, but I just don't want to enable more people to read about the disgusting show.
Notice how the word "irreverence" is practically - well, holy?
Anything reminiscent of holiness, virtue, reverence - is ridiculed and scorned. Even common human decency and politeness is becoming outre behavior. Cool means nasty, mean, vile, impudent, and cruel.
We live in a world gone mad, in many respects.
