What you have is not the Nano but the Video iPod (either 30Gig or 60Gig). Otherwise you could not play video. However, both the Nano and Video iPod are awesome products.

I suggest that the next thing you buy for your iPod is a protective case. The kind of case that lets you operate the iPod through the plastic. I have a leather one that has plastic window for the screen and scroll wheel.

I was buying a $300 TV several years ago and the salesman started to pressure me to buy a warranty and I said no but that didn't stop him. He kept telling me I would be sorry as repairs were expensive. I told him if that TV wouldn't last 2 years he could keep it and I walked out.

I did buy a warranty for a 36 Sony TV that cost me $1600 and it did have a problem after the factory warranty was up and they fixed it, no charge.

Sharp called me last week to sign up for a extended warranty on my 20" Aquos LCD TV and I said no...

The guys at Best Buy implied that if you don't get their warranty plan, which is supposed to cover EVERYTHING for three years, you're taking your chances.

The guys at Best Buy make most of their profit margin off extended warranty plans. That's why they are able to sell at such a low price.

I simply do not buy extended warranties for electronic products. In the off-chance that one of my electronic products fails, it is still cheaper to buy another one than to buy all those extended warranties. I've saved thousands of dollars over the years by not buying extended warranties and I haven't been burned once.

Remember that all electronic products have a basic manufacturers warranty. You are just wasting your money by getting added protection.

Yea, I realized that after I made the post.

Now this is the reason I got the 60 gig video Ipod as a Christmas gift for my wife...I also go myself a Sanyo C5 digital camera/camcorder.

If you happen to be a mac user, you can use quicktime pro to format MP4 movies (which is the format my camera records in) to the video Ipod.

As we are expecting this year, Momma will be able to carry all the baby pictures and home movies with her at all times ;o)

She was speechless when I gave it to her, because I gave her the U2 edition Ipod last Christmas. I didn't think anything of it myself. To me, it was like giving her a microwave after last year's toaster!

The iPods come with a one year warantee...but there is a $30 shipping and handling charge after six months. But you can buy Applecare for them... $59 for two years total... which covers 100% for two years with no shipping or handling. Depending on what Best Buy charged you, theirs might be a better deal.

We have Freepers who are going on three years with their original batteries. Third parties are willing to replace the iPod batteries for less than $30 if it becomes necessary...

I replace the single AAA battery in my Rio for about $1.25 every 20-30 hours of use. Upgrading to 768Mb of memory requires placing an SD card into the unit, a 30 second operation. I can add and delete about 100+ songs in less than 5 minutes.

The iPod has a nice look, but it's not the only MP3 player in town, and certainly not the best.

So, if you use your mp3 player for 8 hours a day (some do) you replace your battery twice a week... at $1.25 a pop. That's $130 a year. OK.

I think $20 every couple of years to exchange the rechargeable in the iPod is better... and more economical.

With an iPod, which has the capacity to hold thousands of songs, replacing songs in less than five minutes is unnecessary... just keep them all on the iPod.

Funny...I keep hearing that same thing...from those that don't own an Ipod.

I sense an Apple iPod zealot. I was using worst case of $1.25 for a single AAA purchased at retail. In fact one can buy 12-packs for substantially less that $1.00 per AAA, or a top of the line charger with 4 or 8 included rechargable 2000ma AAAs for less than $50.00 (good for 300 to 400 charges).

In any case my point was simply that the iPod Nano is not the only MP3 player out there, nor is there anything new or advanced about it.

If you want to argue that case, have at it.

And, no, I don't use my MP3 player 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.
