WHO SHALL WIN?
I know, its crazy. 20 seconds left now.
FG good...wow.
checking on the Colts game....Vanderjagt has one blocked, the 3rd FG block today.
It was for 'da Stillers.
The Bucs couldn't afford to lose this one. They basically have the division won now seeing as they have N.O. next week.
They and the Pats are returning to form just in time for the post season. If Cincy loses to KC next week and the Pats win out it'll be PIT vs. NE in round 1 at Foxboro.
Oh no! I can't take it.
NFC North Playoff Scenarios
BEARS can clinch division with:
BEARS win or tie, OR
Minnesota Vikings loss or tie.
BEARS can clinch first-round bye with:
BEARS win + We'll see on SUNDAY...
New York Giants loss--YES
Carolina Panthers loss. YES!!
DONE HERE...
BEARS can clinch playoff berth with:
Washington Redskins loss or tie--NOT
Tampa Bay Buccaneers loss---NOT
Durn!
And that's the game.
First off...don't feel downtrodden. Even though we lost, we still have a chance to make it to the playoffs.
Now...some reasons why the Giants lost today.
Reason #1: I suppose one could point a finger at Will Allen...however, there's other things to go on. Sure he contributed big time to defeat, but number one reason was a defense that refused to stop the Redskins on third down time and time again. Bad tackling, bad coverage. Just a poor day for the defense (Osi only had one tackle. One tackle!).
Reason #2: Will Allen. Him going one-on-one with Santana Moss was a stupid thing to do.
Reason #3: Eli's still in a bit of a funk, although he is improving. However, the receivers are more at fault; they're dropping too many catchable passes. The offense needs to get back in tune before the Oakland game.
Reason #4: Some strange calls by officials. The hold on Snee at end was bogus, and that nullified the touchdown strike to Toomer. During our first punt that would have pinned Skins way back, Tyree was called for coming back in from out of bounds when in fact he was forced out! And so it goes.
Reason #5: Redskins defense and overall better play calling by their coaches than ours.
Reason #6: Feely kicked the ball way too low at a critical juncture and then the Redskins make one big play to Moss. That's a 10-point swing right there.
All in all, a pretty poor day. But then again, it was sort of understandable from the defense's point of view; our LB Corps is absolutely depleted (with no Pierce, no Emmons, no Joseph, and now the injury to Blackburn.). The front four are going to have to step up their game next week against the Raiders.
So here's my final thoughts; it's not the end of the season. A victory next week on New Year's Eve, and we're in the playoffs. If Chicago loses their next two and the Panthersose, we still make the 2nd-seed and get the buy (which, IMHO, the Giants need; Eli and the receivers need to work on their mechanics).
All in all, the Redskins wanted this game more. They played better. And that's why we lost ultimately. However, I still believe that the Giants will make the playoffs by beating the Raiders next week. It will be interesting...Kerry Collins versus Eli Manning. And Randy Moss versus our secondary will be an interesting match-up.
Next week is the last game of the regular season. It won't be the last one for the season. Not for the Giants.
See you on the eve of 2006.
It could happen. If it does I bet that'll be the prime time game on Saturday night.
My Cowboys manage to win, 24-20, to stay alive in the playoff race....
Next week we shall find out.
So tomorrow we'll watch the Bears lock up that first round bye. Hope it does them more good this time than it did in 2001.
For the Boys it's really simple. If the Redskins beat Philly, they are out.
I still believe in miracles.....
Heck, if Minnesota loses to the Ravens tomorrow night, we're in the playoffs anyway.
Just like KC and SD need Detroit to beat Pittsburgh next week. In other words both of their seasons end next week.
So this is how the NFC playoff picture looks as of right now:
CAR at NYG
WAS at TB
SEA & CHI bye
I have to rethink my Carolina NFC prediction. They are not as good as I thought.
Chicago or Seattle are probably more realistic.
Not sure about the other teams, tho someone could step up and make a run.
