Vanity - Christmas recipe help
12/24/05

Posted on 12/24/2005 6:54:32 AM PST by sassbox

Tomorrow for Christmas dinner I would like to make a spice cake. I am having trouble finding a good recipe for the frosting. FR is a treasure trove of knowledge so I figure someone on here could help! Basically I just want to make a simple white icing/frosting. The trick is, my husband is allergic to whey. If the frosting has milk, cream, or cream cheese in it, he will not have a very merry Christmas. Butter is fine though. Does anyone have a simple recipe for a frosting that doesn't use any dairy products except for butter? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

My recipes for frosting all involve only one ingredient.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
1 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 lb. 10x sugar
2 to 3 tbsp. water depending on consistency desired

Beat butter until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add 10x sugar - 2 cups at a time, alternating with 1 tablespoon water until you achieve consistency desired.

Or you can sub the water with a liquer if you want.

that looks like a good recipe, thanks! By 10x sugar, do you mean confectioner's or powdered sugar?

Powdered sugar (it usually has 4x or 10x on the side of the box or bag).

It's my mom's old recipe.

I'd love to help, but all my Christmas recipes begin with the phrase, "Fill a water glass with Vodka".

You can make a mocha icing by substituting coffee as the liquid for milk. I do it all the time and we have no allergies. It's so yummy and would be fabulous on a spice cake!
