"Use real green beans fresh cooked in chicken broth with onions & sliced mushrooms....."

I would never...absolutely never eat anything but the real green beans - garden, fresh is even better.

The dish was invented by Cambell's Soup..to promote sales of their Ceam of Mushroom soup..

Yep, and because I dislike shrooms we use Campbells cream of something else, which tastes awful.

Posting the picture makes that which is hideous in the abstract only more horribly real. And what's with those nasty canned fried onions? They never appear on anything else. They're just an enabler for this dish.

I happen to like it....
It brings back fond memories of family reunions and holidays.

Sometimes food is more than food ;)

Agreed! There's casserole and then there's a dish. I prefer my version to be more beans than soup, so I use about half the called for soup. I use filet beans from my garden (I freeze the surplus for winter use), and a wonderful cheddar from a local creamery. I skip the french fried onions and carmelize my own.

The bacon is a nice idea. I might try that.

Green bean casserole? Love it....love it....love it!

Me too. Me too.

Crunchy onions, almond slivers, extra mushrooms in the soup.

Yum.

I love it. My mom never made it growing up and the only time I got it was a church pot-lucks. After I got married, we made it alot and I still love it. What is funny is that at Thanksgiving my mom made the comment that "I made that all the time for you all when you were young". Mom, must have been in an alternative timeline because I never had it.

Poor poor Max....she must have made it for your other self. :D I am a good Mom and do not make the loathesome dish. I do not cook smelly brussel sprouts either! :)

Green Bean Casserole, Curse or Treat?

My question is, terse or Crete?

Oh, you guys on that island over there wouldn't know good food if it hit you in the face. There is more to food than fish and chips.

I prefer slimy okra. In fact, I complain if it isn't slimy enough.

Dump the green bean casserole and everything else. Give me a corn casserole all to myself and I'll be happy.

How about GBC with broccoli sprinkles and turnip slices

LOL -- I love okra cooked every which way, even boiled.
As a kid, I had to learn to love boiled okra, though - my Dad loved it slimy.
