In 1986, the rock band Boston released its third album, Third Stage, which was the musical equivalent to Colorado's effort in the Big 12 Championship game a few weeks back. The '70s air-guitar heroes had released one of the greatest all-time debut albums in 1976 (Boston) and then followed it up two years later with a sophomore effort (Don't Look Back) that hadn't been equaled until Dwayne Jarrett's 4th-down catch in South Bend.
But then the self-proclaimed "just another band out of Boston" took eight years off. And look what happened. Bowl teams can be like that. After taking as many as five weeks off, they suit up in an unfamiliar city, on unfamiliar turf (unless they're Boise State) against an unfamiliar opponent -- and who can know how they will perform.
Then again, Kate Bush just released her first album in 12 years last month (Aerial) and critics have fawned over it so much that you'd think it was a gay cowboy movie. The point is, after a long layoff, you never can tell. Whether it's college football or music. That is, unless a Bush is involved. You can always count on a Bush.
Finally, as a public service to anyone not personally invested in these teams, I'm offering a pair of holiday specials: first, a mention of any player who's a first or second-team Associated Press All-American and, second, a viewing alternative for the pre-Christmas Day bowl games.

possibly.
MY guess is that Bowden will throw the entire playbook at Penn State, but the Penn State defense is 1 and 1a with the Ohio State defense as the best in the nation.
Other than playing Pasadena this year, from an exposure standpoint the Buckeyes couldn't have asked for a better bowl situation.
I just got my Pats playoff tickets!
Trick plays against good defenses usually leads to disaster for the offense.
I'm thinking Rose Bowl: USC 42, Texas 31
nice....
well in a couple years I will probably be getting my Browns playoff tickets so it's all good :)
it's possible.
I don't think either has the defense to completely shut the other down, especially USC, but USC is far superior on offense.
for UT to have a chance, they need their defense to play relatively well and they need another playmaker on offense to compliment Vince Young.
Oh, and Rose Bowl MVP = Matt Leinart. The Longhorns will play close to the line of scrimmage to shut down Reggie Bush's running game (or try to), and consequently will be eaten alive by Leinart's arm. I think Bush's numbers will good, but at more human levels. Vince Young will also play a good game, but it won't be enough to overcome the Conquering Trojans.
I'm assume the SI author was reminscing over his 70s vinyl collection while doing a doobie while coming up with this angle for a "story" mere hours before his publishing deadline.
possibly....
Generally his columns try to tie in something from the 70s or 80s to the current trends in College football, so it isn't completely out there...
I don't know about you guys, but your bandwagon just had a gigantic fat guy jump up on it...

I don't know if he ever jumped off.
This one's on ESPN's front page.

yep :)
Ironic huh?
I don't know.
When they were 3-3, he was wavering....
Of course he was on the Bears bandwagon a couple weeks ago
USC by > 10
Actually our last regular season loss that season was also to the Browns.
I wonder if Vick will be getting any grief from the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP?
Well, I for one hope it causes a lot of people to stay home and scalper's prices to hit the dumpster.
My wife has a ticket, courtesy of her brother. I am left out in the cold, but driving her to the game. We leave on Tuesday (Jan 3) at 2:00 PM and return Thursday!
If anyone has an extra ticket.....................
