Haven't seen that one! Hafta add it to my Netflix queue...
I take it I'll never think of them the same way again?
I lost the most loving cat I had ever known last March to cardiomyopathy -- he was only three years old. When I got him at three months, I noticed that whenever he would run he would stop and pant.
When the vet told me he had the condition, he said that he could "die next week or ten years from now" -- there's no way of knowing. He told me there wasn't much I could do unless I wanted to make the little guy's life miserable.
"What do you want to do?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" I replied.
"Are you going to take him back to the shelter?"
There was no way -- he was my little buddy. I wasn't going to take him back and have him put in a little cage. He had the best life for three years, and I was tremendously blessed. I still wasn't ready for the shock of finding him "sleeping" on my bed one day, but I would do it all over again.
Do you like Netflix?
We sang this in my college group:

I haven't heard it since then.
Wow! That's just awesome!
My kitty was a real little devil, but she sure added a lot to my life those 15 years.
My first roommate had a beautiful cat named Sam, who lived to be 19. He had had a couple of strokes and couldn't get around anymore and wasn't eating, so we had to put him down. We called on a male friend of ours to take him to the vet. That was pretty hard, too. We were in our 20s then, so she'd had Sam ever since she could remember.
I've never actually had a cat die of old age or have to be put to sleep, which is rather sad, acutally. Growing up, all our cats were indoor/outdoor, and eventually they'd disappear and never come back. Whether they did that by design or whether something happened to them, I never knew, and that's not easy to take.
My current cats are indoor only, and I really hope to be "stuck" with them for many years to come. Tam is going on seven and Halvah's almost exactly a year younger. Considering Siamese tend to be long-lived - can live to twenty or so - I'm hoping I have more years ahead than behind.
Oh dear...that looks really bad. In a good way, of course.
I've only had it a month or so. The downside, of course, is that you can't run out and pick up a movie for the weekend - you have to plan ahead. But considering I really like older movies and odd things that aren't often available at the local places, it's been nice. While my roommate is gone, I'm being totally self-indulgent and renting stuff like concerts and TV shows and revisiting movies I liked growing up. Pretty much if it'd on DVD, you can get it from Netflix.
I take it you've got the three-videos-at-a-time deal. Once I get through grad school, I may look into doing it.
A word of advice...don't ever run from Mitchell. One of the most unexpected, unrealistic scenes ever.
We got her as a kitten in Oct.1979 and she died in April 1993.
I think the last pet I will have, you get so attached to the darn things and they last such a short time.
The same can be said of just about anything we might get attached to, sadly. It's part of this world. People *generally* live longer than dogs and cats, but that isn't a given, and it isn't necessarily easy to lose someone no matter how long you've had them.
Enough philosophical ramblings.
Pretty kitty - what was her name?
She does look like she almost has color points like a Siamese.
I didn't set out to have multiple Siamese or Siamese mix cats...did want one, from the time I was little, and as soon as I was in a place where I could have one and afford one, I started looking. I wanted a female. I found a lady about an hour away that bred a few litters a year, and went to visit just to meet the cats and find out a little about them...no intention of getting a kitten, especially as she generally had a waiting list, and all current kittens were spoken for.
But when I got there, she handed Tam to me, and I never put him down. Turned out he was available after all. He was NOT cute - I have the pictures to prove he was an ugly little white rat with a nose that looked huge - but there was something about him.
Then I spent the first year or so of his existance wanting to strangle him at least once in every twenty four hour period. He's very demanding and talkative and horrible, and I love him very much. ;-) It did help when Halvah came along. They play together and at least somewhat tucker one another out.
Tonight at the grocery I found the pom-pom toys he likes to play fetch with, and he's annoyed that I'm not giving him my undivided attention.
That picture of Clinton at post #320 is so revoltoid it took me three days to stop barfing and get back to you to say thanks for the reminder.
Just the thought of it, and I have to lean over the loo again...LOL
No problem and NEVER FORGET!
No worries. I understand. Happened to me too.
