Welcome to the OFFICIAL Friday/Saturday Night Singles' Thread
"We're Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight...Let's Celebrate...It's All Right!"
In store for tonight (as proposed by apackof2):
To get our thread started, we're going to answer these questions:
1) "When and why did you join Free Republic?"
2) "What was going on at the time?" (Top movies, favorite song(s), price of gas, etc.)
3) "What happened on that day in history?"
Of possible further interest:

A special thanks to Paul_Denton for keeping the thread going in my absence.

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots
conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse,
to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

I was at the time reading "Hillary`s Secret War" by Richard Poe which has a section devoted to Free Republic.
Coincidentally at the same time Rathergate erupted.
I have been politically aware since I was 7 years old with Nixon`s reelection in 1972 and had only been on line since Jan.2004 so I had to find the site.
I tend to be opinionated and outspoken so it seemed the perfect match. I lurked for a couple of weeks and signed up.

You know, I just realized I'm in the danger zone -- I'm in a coffeeshop posting this stuff and anybody can see my screen. They're having art night with poems and such, so you can bet I'm one of the few conservatives here.
If I stop posting, that's why. My laptop's probably destroyed.

A joke I've been telling since the 9/11:
President Al Gore in a bold speech of leadership to rally the American people after the terrorist attack: "Americans, please do not panic. The trees are safe. Repeat, the trees are safe."
