Welcome to the OFFICIAL Friday/Saturday Night Singles' Thread
"We're Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight...Let's Celebrate...It's All Right!"
In store for tonight (as proposed by apackof2):
To get our thread started, we're going to answer these questions:
1) "When and why did you join Free Republic?"
2) "What was going on at the time?" (Top movies, favorite song(s), price of gas, etc.)
3) "What happened on that day in history?"
Of possible further interest:

FRmail me if you want on or off the F/S Singles' Thread Ping List. It will only be used for pinging to the official thread, and will never be used for any other purpose.

A special thanks to Paul_Denton for keeping the thread going in my absence.

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots
conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse,
to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

but I'm pretty pleased that it at least looks like it was made by a higher primate... I have seen one of those on TV quite a bit the last couple of days.

Has anyone seen King Kong? From the previews, it looks like it should at least be entertaining, though I don't have any high hopes for it beyond that...
I saw the Narnia movie on Monday. Thought they did a good job on it. Some things weren't as I'd pictured them, but they did stick to the book pretty well (except for PCifying things like Father Christmas telling Susan and Lucy they didn't belong in battle). It was light-years beyond the BBC ones, but I guess that goes without saying. No visible zippers on the beavers...or any animals with human lips...

I'm between jobs again (last was a contract that got cut short early because of budget cuts), so I have all the free time in the world, sadly.

I want to see King Kong, too. But he ain't got nothin' on me!
Question: What movie is that from?
By the way, I'm about ready to puke from the sappy poetry.

I have`nt and don`t know if I care to.
I love the original (Fay Wray was not really blonde) and kind of view a remake as a knock off.

My expectations are so low I might just enjoy it anyway...
There's plenty of room in the world for slightly cheesy movies! Though...the length is kinda intimidating.
