CFN Expert Picks 2005-2006 Bowls
College Football News.com ^ | 16 November 2005 | CFN

Here are the picks from several college football dignitaries along with Clucko the Chicken. Put down two feed dishes, one representing one team and one representing another and whichever dish the chicken goes to first is the team that's going to win. You'll do just as well. (Really, the pick is a coin flip. Don't laugh; Clucko won the 2000 Bowl Pool among 24 entrants.) You can get to the Expert Picks in the above dropdown under Predictions.

For the Bowls, each "expert" not only gives his pick, but also his confidence in his pick ranking the bowl picks against the spread. The pick he is the MOST confident in gets a 28, LEAST confident gets a 1. Be sure to scroll down all the way for all the picks.

The pickers: Pete Fiutak - CFN, Rich Cirminiello - CFN, Matthew Zemek - CFN, Mark Risley - CFN, John Harris - CFN, Trey Luerssen - Foxsports.com, Eric Edholm - Pro Football Weekly, Steve Greenberg - The Sporting News, Tom Dienhart - The Sporting News, Matt Hayes - The Sporting News, Todd Wright - ESPN Radio, Clucko the Chicken - KFC ...

I said that Bush deserves the Heisman...he is incredible and won it hands down. I am just saying that VY would love to put up some drastic numbers

I know you said that, but you were implying that VY would be playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder because he didn't win it. Why would that be if Bush deserved it and VY knows it? Drastic numbers? Again, I don't think you're giving VY the credit he deserves as a team player. Again, if he is focused on HIS numbers instead of the numbers on the scoreboard he and the Horns will be in big trouble. I don't see him as being a selfish player, so I don't expect it to start now.

You are obviously a UT fan, and that's great. I'm not rooting for either team, although I will be quite interested in the game. I really don't see any way that USC will lose this game. The've proven themselves every year under Carroll with convincing bowl wins over Iowa, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Give Carroll a fresh team and extra time to develop a game plan, and it's lights out. They are near home and quite comfortable in national championship games. This is new territory for Texas. They are likely to come out a bit nervous at the beginning and will probably get jumped on fast. They could easily be down 10-0 or 14-0 before they break a sweat. Playing catch up against USC is near impossible. The 'Horns will find their groove and make some plays, but it won't be enough. I'm not taking anything away from them. They are a very, very good team. It just happens that they will be playing a team that is even better than they are. Just as it is in the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl, in these national title and BCS Bowl games, the best team usually wins.

I said Bush deserved it...I didn't say that VY knows it...even if he does think that Bush deserved it, it doesn't take away from the fact that he would want to put up good numbers against USC to prove that he was at least a legitimate candidate for the award. I don't think he feels slighted in any way...I just know that when someone wins an award that you were in the running for and you get a chance to compete with that person, you are definitely going to want to bring your A game.

As far as the Oklahoma game...USC was flawless...they did dismantle them. I don't know how many of those players are on this team...

Knowing what I know about UT players...it doesn't look good. I can't say what happened in this instance, but historically, UT football players would not be near the top when it comes to good decision making.

Well, every program has stuff like this happen. I just can't believe the timing, if in fact it is true, which we don't yet know.

If the Ohio State offensive line puts in a game like it did against Michigan, it will be a long day for the ND defense.

Notre Dame will end the year like it started: With a long-standing bowl game losing streak and a season in which they didn't beat so much as one good team.

They'll still squeal like pigs about the thug behavior of their opponent -- typical of the Domers when they get their behinds kicked -- and go on and on about their superior academic standards.

But this upcoming post-season embarrassment won't prevent Brady Quinn from winning the 2006 Heisman Trophy -- something he's already been annointed for by the media since the USC loss -- or the Domers coming out as the pre-season No. 1 team next year as well.

In fact, don't even expect the late-season, now-traditional, Thanksgiving weeked ass-kicking at the hands of USC next year to keep them out of the BCS title game.

You think Oklahoma had Mulligan status after Kansas State lit them up in the Big 12 conference championship game a couple of years ago, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Go Bucks!

hey if Quinn wins it, that's cool. I remember watching his middle school team kick the living crap out of the middle school team that was associated with my High School when he was in 7th grade....

I don't think they will be #1 either. I think that will be the winner of the USC/Texas game.

"Yeah....well Oklahoma had a "Superior" defense last year as well, remember it was the best USC had ever faced with their big stud lineman that just got crushed by SC's O-line."

I cannot for the life of me remember a soul saying that.

Then you're blind as well as deaf and dumb. Every media talking head in creation was lauding Oklahoma as the greatest team of all time. Too big, too fast, too physical, too well-coached, too savvy for USC, who, it was hoped, would at least go down fighting so as to avoid too big an embarrassment for the soft, weak Pac 10 that doesn't play defense.

Craig James, Mr. Potatohead (Aaron Taylor), Kirk Herbstreit, Trev Albert, and Mark May all lined up behind Oklahoma, just to name a few. Right up to the pre-game festivities on ESPN and ABC. Herbstreit went so far as to say he thought it would be over in the second quarter. As it turned out he was right, but not for the team he thought. About the only one who picked USC was Lee Corso, and probably only to be contrarian and stir the pot.

The post game show with all those hacks ponying up to the dinner table with egg dripping off their faces to dine on their New Year's helping of crow was too priceless to be believed.

And it's all on tape, so don't say it didn't happen.

"...in a season in which they didn't beat so much as one good team."

This, coming from an Ohio State honk? Your one "BIG" win this year was over Michigan, who Notre Dame also beat if I remember correctly. Who else did you guys beat, by the way, as you are taking shots at Notre Dame's season?

I don't see them getting convicted by game time. I hope it's not true.

Yeah, we'll see how it plays out. Also, why do three other guys leave the team right now, because they are transferring next year? Why not just practice for two more weeks, go to the national title game, maybe win it and be part of that, and then leave? I mean, if you played all year, why leave now?

They were saying the offense was. And they were saying OU front four was great BUT They continously said that OUs one weakness was its flipping secondary which was ranked 97 th in the nation. SO dont give me this crap that OU was the greatest yada yada, on paper USC matched up poorly except for the passing game. Greatest of all time indeed.

By the way, you are completely correct about all the ABC and ESPN talking meatballs telling the whole country how Oklahoma was going to kick USC's ass last year. The biggest clown was/is Craig James, a guy you think might have learned a lesson from the prior year when he said the same things about how Michigan was going to kick USC's ass in that bowl game. I remember seeing James on ABC's halftime show and he was white as a ghost, in complete embarrassed shock.

Also, after looking at past posts, I can see you are not an Ohio State 'honk', just making a point. Sorry for jumping to the erroneous conclusion.

I don't know...maybe they didn't want players who were transferring to be on the field if they weren't committed to the team 100%...

Look for 350 passing and 100 rushing on 5 tds to prove his point to the Heisman voters.

Bump for Later

Bush is good but he cant carry the team on his shoulders every time

He has never had to carry the team. That's why USC is unbeatable.
