The only reason it's doing that is its 3-hour length. Because of that, you can't get four or five shows in a day, which helps boost box office revenue.

Who would want to sit through a 3 hour remake that already been done, how many times?

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that it's a thrice-remade movie about a big monkey? Naaaahhhhhh.

My daughter saw it last night. She said it was good, but I got the impression it certainly wasn't her favorite movie. She said it was too long and it bogged down in parts.

Movie should have been released in the summer. Nobody's going to go to a movie on a Wednesday night in the middle of December, when they're fighting holiday shoppers and such.

IMO the movie will make the obligatory $100 million and will just be a regular blockbuster.

Well to be honest this is probably the first legitimate remake. The crappy 1976 version doesn't count.

Agree. I guess studios like to release movies during the middle of the week to pump up the box office numbers, but I've never gone to see a flick on a Wednesday. The numbers will be there over the weekend. On a related topic, I think it was a bonehead move by the studio to boast that the movie will do Titanic-like numbers.

Does Drudge own stock in Universal or something? He is really focusing on a lot on this movie.

Hollywood is crazy to think a remake of King Kong would be a blockbuster. It was apparent from the previews that it was a decade too late, even if the script is good. Now, if this had come out on the heels of Jurassic Park, I'm sure it would've done a lot better on opening.

They should have played up the beastiality angle. Then it would have been praised as the greatest love story ever told.

Not to worry. Ang Lee is working on a sequel. Working title, "Too men and a sheep".

All 3 Lord of the Rings movies opened in Dec on Wed and did very good. I just think everybody's tired of remakes. i want to see 'King Kong' but I'll wait for the dvd. I already know what happens in the movie, so the only reason to see it is for the special effects.

In Madison WI we had a pretty big snow storm last night, I doubt going to th the movies was high on anybody's priority list. Heck, until I saw this, I forgot yesterday was Wednesday even.

The original KK was on (TMC or AMC) night before last. It was a cleaned up print with none of the flickering and decent sound. First, I don't see how it could be improved on. And second, the special effects remained state of the art till Star Wars. What a thrill it must have been for 1933 audiences!

Tell that to Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Well, it does feature Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow.
