BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- The cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain" led Golden Globe contenders Tuesday with seven nominations, among them best dramatic picture and honors for actors Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams and director Ang Lee, positioning itself as a key Academy Awards competitor.
Other best drama picture contenders were the murder thriller "The Constant Gardener," the Edward R. Murrow tale "Good Night, and Good Luck," the mobster story "A History of Violence," and the infidelity drama "Match Point."

Why don't they just rename the Academy Award "Karl"? |

It's like the Nobel Peace Prize. That one no longer has anything to do with Peace. Now, it's about "social justice". And the Award for Best Picture is no longer about good, crowd pleasing movies destined to be seen as classics. Now, it's about "Social Justice".
I detect a theme. I second the notion that the award be renamed the "Karl".

I heard that the movie about the two cowpokes is doing so well they've already planned the sequel:
Backdoor Mounting II: Homo on the Range

The Globes always take this road to controversy. They must think it pumps up their agenda. And it will no doubt win.

I'm asking everyone here to pray that Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney and the movie THE SQUID AND THE WHALE walks away with everything. I have a very personal interest in this...I haven't seen it yet because it hasn't played near where I live...has anyone seen it? Anyway, it's about how bad divorce is on the kids....ok...it would sound stupid to make this a prayer thread about a movie, but if you could find it in yourselves to help me out...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

Looks like this movie will sweep the Oscars this year. Guess the academy will want to thumb its nose at fly over country, and they wonder why box office receipts are down over all.

I detect a theme. I second the notion that the award be renamed the "Karl". Or in this case, it may be more appropriate to name it the "Hot Karl".

IMHO
Bareback Mountain looks like a romantic comedy. Paraphrasing the
Pogue Colonel charactor in
Full Metal Jacket "Inside every movie there is a comedy trying to get out."
