PLUMBING QUESTION - Changing a WATER PRESSURE REDUCER in my townhouse (Handymen/women welcome!...)

Posted on 12/12/2005 10:14:10 AM PST by ElPatriota

Hi all,

All of the sudden when I was taking a shower, the pressure just increased at least by a factor or 2X... too strong!...I had to reduce the pressure from the shower head. Anyway, the water company came to check and found the pressure (78 lbs) which is normal so they said to check the "Water Pressure Reducer." (about $50.00) it seems this is what it is, although I can never be sure until a plumber looks at it. I already found out it costs $250.00. Not a lot but still....

On the surface it does not seem like replacing it is a very difficult job to do... the thing is, I am not a plumber! Does anyone know how easy/difficult is to do this?

QUESTION 2: Anyone knows of other forums on the web, with lots of people to ask questions of ? it used to be that USENET had it all... but everything has changed nowadays.

TIA

..Saw the pic. The tag says the pressure range is 25-75#. It's adjustable. Instead of a screw it has a bolt. Everything else I wrote applies. Loosen the locknut and turn the bolt out 1 turn. ..

My goodness you know yout stuff, don't you! :)

when I get home tonight I will go over all these wonderful tips and reply for further advise

I forgot to tell you, I think this stuff is fun too!... but not when you are in the middle of a major leak or problem, then it's too late for the "fun" part. I'am going to take some classes. :)

Since this is a political forum and not a home-improvement forum, you must be speaking in symbolic terms. Let me see if I understand...

===

All of the sudden when I was taking a shower, the pressure just increased at least by a factor or 2X... too strong!...

You must be speaking of the "flow" of bad information from the MSM. The sudden increase in pressure must have occurred about the time of the last election

I had to reduce the pressure from the shower head.

Yes, I agree. Dan Rather was getting to be too much. Too much liberal "pressure". I just stopped watching him too.

Anyway, the water company came to check and found the pressure (78 lbs) which is normal

The "78 lbs" of pressure must be coming from the petite Katie Couric. And yes, the news presentation will be "normal" for CBS (the water company) once she starts.

so they said to check the "Water Pressure Reducer." (about $50.00)

This must be the Free Republic, and a suggested donation. We are good at reducing liberal pressure.

it seems this is what it is, although I can never be sure until a plumber looks at it.

The plumber is, of course, Buckhead. He "fixed" CBS' plumbing real good.

I already found out it costs $250.00. Not a lot but still....

Yes, Buckhead is a lawyer and this is a typical hourly fee for a lawyer. He is worth it. I know he's not here on the Free Republic too much anymore, but I wasn't aware he was charging a fee for his participation in conservative activism.

On the surface it does not seem like replacing it is a very difficult job to do... the thing is, I am not a plumber!

Nonsense! There are plenty of Freepers who are as good as Buckhead...including you! We can all be "plumbers", like Buckhead! Have some confidence! Yes, it will take some time, but we WILL replace CBS and their ilk. We will become the NEW media!

Does anyone know how easy/difficult is to do this?

We will find out together!

====

I hope I have responded to your interesting allegory correctly.

Roses is right for mentioning the water heater. Higher pressure doesn't always mean you'll hear water hammer, and the WH usually suffers the brunt.

I'd say you got your money's worth of a 15 year old water heater.

Horseplop. If the Tiger Beat crowd can run their fawning Oscar and Emmy threads, then there's nothing wrong with real world situations. ;)

This is the chat section. Look at all the different subjects floating around. You'd only be taken to task on a Democrap forum for threads about taking showers, right?

I will make sure this is the official policy... although it could be, I don't know. I sent an email to the guy who made the point asking what was the policy of the board... I can see that the board like this should be mostly about politics, but at the same time one should be able to talk about anything within reason as long as it is not offensive. Now if all of the sudden everyone is talking about home improvement... then I could see restraining that aspect of the discussions some what... a question of balance.

I must be missing something here. Admittedly I haven't read the thread any further down than the post I responded to. Did somebody take you to task over this thread?

If so, allow me to publicly tell them to blow it out their ....

There, that's better.

Yes, look at it. Nothing nasty... but he makes the point pretty clear and since I have never had anyone being nasty since I am here, I assumed be was being funny but making a point. But then later on I thought, an administrator would not make a point this way but rather seriously and to the point. So I guess the best thing is to find out from and Administrator what they think.

I sent him an email asking basically if this was the policy of the board. ======================

Well, I am glad!... because we have a great bunch of people here. As to Kidd's comments, funny yes, but out of place in my opinion. As the saying goes, if you have nothing to contribute or add to a subject, just keep going... :)

Thanks Admin Moderator.

You're wrong. This is not a plumbing forum, kidd was being humorous and his comment was completely appropriate. Please find a sense of humor.

Respectully but I disagree! - and no I don't need to get a sense of humor, no if I don't like it. Actually I think he was bit rude of him, to splash himself where he was not needed (since the subject was crystal clear)

by being funny he wanted to ricule my subject... as if he was such a brilliant person (he made his best to show it!)

I follow the rules. That is why I asked you if talking about anything different than politics was allowed? or Medicine or doctors or something about computers, or anything else besides politics. You said yes and I assume this to be the policy of FR. So, if you are correct then Kidd is incorrect... humorosly yes, but his point was that I should NOT talk about plumbing. So which is it?

And by way if you want to cut me off FR, do it. There are plenty others.
