Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Heh, he was laughing about how the same old heat day in and day out, is kinda like we feel about the cold day in and day out! The temps were fairly pleasant the whole time he was home, especially the last few days, so that means he won't have a big jolt to return to as far as the warmth of Texas is concerned.
While he was here, we only had one really good sized snowfall, but he did get to see some nice snow when he spent New Year's in New Hampshire with some old friends from Carnegie Mellon. They all rented a condo up in Waterville Valley, and did some skiing. I don't know how long it's been since he was up on snow skis, but he took a couple of good tumbles. One side of his back was a hugh bruise for a week!

He's lucky they had good snow! From what I'm hearing, it's been snowing, but then warming up and raining - lotta freezing rain this year, too. Ugh. Guess I'm glad to be away from that, at least!
Heh...and yeah, I guess too much of anything gets old after awhile. ;-) But then we remember it fondly when we move away...I've *almost* been a little nostalgic about the subzero weather we usually have this time of year back home.

Someday, that could be your car...complete with poodle! ;-)
To: RosieCotton
Heh heh!! Yep!
I emailed it to my dad, even though I haven't heard from him in weeks. I suspect he doesn't even get my email. I suspect it's deleted before he gets it because he asks me questions in emails that I've already answered in previous emails.
...When I used to live at home in my early 20s I had to get my own mailbox because my snail mail never got to me or was already open when I got it. So there's precedence

You know...gotta wonder about you sometimes, dude. You propose on Friday the 13th, and celebrate your first day of engagement anniversary by snagging an extended evil number. *shakes head sadly*
Heh...

...
That just ain't right...How's your day going? I've mostly been reading and thinking and all such like. Lot to think about.
To: RosieCotton
Going good. I planted 72 more radishes. Just for fun. Gophers'll probably get 'em anyways. Then it got too cold to stay outside comfortably for me. Steve is cleaning out the garage, getting it ready for the Overhead Door guy to come on Monday.
...It used to bother me because I thought my dad wasn't writing me back when I'd write him, but then I began realize it was like he wasn't getting my emails! When the situation with the Sams Card happened, I made him call me to talk to me about it...didn't want to deal with it via email 'cause you really don't know who you're dealing with or if information is getting through or if the story is being twisted to fit an agenda. Heh. I should write a novel.

Mmmm...garden.I think I'm gonna try making this for dinner. I don't have fresh rosemary and thyme (yet), and I guess I'd substitute the red wine that's been in the fridge since before Christmas for the sherry, but I think it'll still be tasty. Gonna half the recipe.
To: RosieCotton
Mmmm! That really does sound good!
I don't b'lieve I've ever actually had sherry...don't know what it tastes like or anything. Port either.

I don't think I've ever had them either. I've had brandy a few times - my brother bought a bottle near Christmas a few years ago, so we all got to taste it.
To: Lil'freeper
Sis, Steve and I are thinking of doing a raised bed garden kinda like the one you did with the cinder blocks...could you post pictures, or links to pictures of yours again so I can get some ideas?
We're just going to set it on the ground, on a layer of hardware cloth and fill it with man-made soil and compost because I swear, the gophers are already tearing up my garden and I can tell they're going to wreck havoc on it when the roots start growing.

I've had Brandy Alexanders. Oh my! That was actually the first drink I ever ordered, when I was 15. Ordered it at my best friend's wedding (she is several years older than me and has been my best friend since I was two.)
I have to say, it was delicious.
I'd like to try a real nice brandy though...just a taste.

To: Peanut Gallery
Heh heh! I bet that is good!
I've only had Brandy Alexanders a couple of times in my life...

Let's just hope he doesn't see Jen in her wedding dress before she walks down the aisle.
