Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

If ecurbh comes out of the house leaping around while wearing yellow boots and a big hat with a feather sticking out of it...
You know, maybe I'll check the nearby hotels. Just in case. *grin*

I'm not sure he could pull off a Bombadil...
I'm not sure anyone can. Which is, I think, what PJ decided too :~D

I haven't left Rivendell yet. But I did notice that we get more of a description about Moria and Gimli wasn't likely as shocked as the appeared in themovie.
I love themovies enough to accept the changes.
My comment was more that I'm just realizing more of the differences, like dialogue that was moved, etc. I've been fascinated (all over again) by the monumental task of just turning the books into a script.

No doubt your modesty also leads you to keep from sharing your troubles and trials with others ;-D

I've been fascinated (all over again) by the monumental task of just turning the books into a script. I finished my re-read of LOTR on Christmas Day and that's exactly what kept coming to mind throughout.
How on earth did they manage it?

They included an incredible amount of the original dialog and text - sometimes giving text to characters, which obviously is the only way to get it into the movie. And while I really don't get *some* of the changes (like, for example, most of TTT, and pretty much their whole treatment of Faramir), it's still obvious the movies were made with a lot of love for the original books.

I left my copy of LOTR in the rental car coming back from CO :( Was half way through my reread.

You should move in with someone who has another copy.

Oooh, popcorn. Thanks!
(Thought there was a remarkable lack of popcorn following last weekend, which means either you all think we're really boring and there's nothing to eat popcorn about, or that you don't have to ask. Neither of which may be true)
