The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...I guess calling the leader a white-washed sepulcher wouldn't exactly be heaping hot coals on her head...

But at least the Lord seemed to have agreed with me about the crowd business.

Heh!!!

I was really shaking. I was very anxious. But after a few minutes it literally became irrelevant. I was with my friends. My real friends.

And that, all by it's self, was sweet.

Sounds great, 2J. Must have been galling for those few women to see how well your group is doing.

I didn't even know the women that were there with that other group. Out of all those 150 ladies that were part of the group last year...all the ones I knew are still around me in BA CHEF and the ones I didn't know went with the new group.

The ones in our group are committed to each other. We're not in it for what it can give us...we're in it for what we can give to each other.

That's the difference.

You hit the nail on the head.

This afternoon my friend called me just to ask how we are doing with school. She knows this is our first real year doing all of it at home. She asked about how school is going, and gave me some good insight as to what normally happens at mid-year. We are going to her house tomorrow morning. She is using the same spelling curriculum we are and both of us want to figure out how to play a game that she has. The trick though is that you have to already know (been introduced to) all 70 phonograms.

By instinct, I have slowed down and started taking it easy so as not to burn out (for both me and KarateBoy). He is really doing well and I don't want to mess that up by pushing him too hard. I am more convinced now than ever that we have done the right thing by keeping him home for school.

I tell you, he was reading Narnia to ME this morning! There is no way he would have been at this point in a classroom setting.

The worst thing you can do, in my opinion is try to push too hard. So much learning can take place in such an easy manner, it's almost magical sometimes. For example, with Karate Boy's reading, it's not something that he would get stressed about because it's a natural occurence in your home, so he'll progress much faster.

Don't be surprised when you go to teach Bittygirl something, and she already knows it. She's hearing what you and big brother are doing, and is absorbing everything!

LOL, you're so right! Bittygirl has one sentence, "Go car to store." And yet, she goes around the house all day spouting phonograms: /a/-/A/-/ah/, /y/-/i/-/I/, or /o/-/O/-/OO/

PE announced tonight that she was saying all her vowels for him! Hah, she has no clue what a vowel is, but she sure knows which ones go together.

It's a week of Saturdays for me :)

...or Mondays, depending on your POV...I am working after all, just not at my job :)

How you?

I have so much to do today, I wish it were two days in one! I'm decorating a large wreath to go on the outside wall of the Sacristy, over the entrance to the Parish Hall. The really big one is done; I decorated it last year and it's been in the basement of the school ever since. I haven't checked it though, so I'll need to do that before the Custodian installs it.

I'm getting two packages ready to ship; one to my nephew in Afghanistan, and one to the daughter of friends who is in Army Intelligence in Baghdad. I talked to her mom day before yesterday, and her mom said that Chrissy and her fellow soldiers get so pi$$ed when they hear the Democrats and the media talking down their efforts. She sees the progress on the ground, and knows how much the Iraqis want this to work. Chrissy was in school with our #1 son, Paul until 8th grade, then they went to separate high schools. We saw her at Midnight Mass last year. She had been stationed in Alaska at the time.

I have to wrap the little gifts for my Girl Scouts for our Christmas party tonight, and in between, Joseph has a Dermatologist's appointment, and I need to squeeze a haircut in for him.

I'm tired just thinking about it all, so I'm sitting and having a cuppa coffee before getting going on it.

Ok...I can tell you what a Fellowship Hall and a Baptistry is, but I have no idea what a Sacristy and a Parish Hall is! ;-)

Good morning! It does sound like a busy day for you! The boys just have Royal Ambassadors (missions studies) this evening at the CDTS (Church down the street), but that's a long way off from now!

I'll have a cup of coffee too, though.
